Tire and axle maintenance

I have a 31 ft 1973 Air Stream Sovereign that has not been moved in about 5 years. I want to put it to use this summer but I'm not sure what type of maintenance the axels need. I am going to replace the tires and if required I would like to replace the axels. I'm giving my Air Stream some TLC inside and out but I'd like to start by being able to move it first. Any suggestions would help. V/r Javier

You will certainly need to have the wheel bearings packed and probably need new seals. The brakes will need to be checked for proper operation and adjusted at the very least. You will also need a brake controller in the TV.
A charged battery in the trailer and an operating break away switch along with the exterior lights that function. Tail/ marker; brake lights and turn signals.
A hitch on your TV rated for the trailer you are pulling and properly adjusted.
Depending on your trailer towing experience and your TV. You may need a weight distribution type hitch along with sway control.
There is an article on Inland RV's web site that will tell you how to check the axles. If you are not towing too far and not very often it will be hard to justify the cost of new axles. IMHO
