I just installed my second Tekonsha P3, the first came DOA. There appears to be no on/off switch. I don't see the need to have it powered up while not towing. I was thinking of splicing a switch to the power harness. This would be simpler than disconnecting the harness.
Now that the brake controller is in place, I hope to bring something home this week.
Happy Easter

I don't see any problem with putting a switch in the circuit for the P3, but I don't see any need for, either. My P3 has been powered since it was installed 4 years ago with out any ill effect.

I quickly got used to the P3's "NO TRAILER" warning and just leave it installed and on all the time. It's been set up that way for 2 years now with no problems.
