Tekonsha P3 and Grand Cherokee

Just installed a Tekonsha P3 controller on a 2012 Grand Cherokee with Tow Package. Used pre-made wiring harness from etrailer to connect controller to vehicle harness.

The P3 screen just flickers and am not able to get the menu to come up on the controller even after pushing the buttons and re-connecting the controller. The flickering screen goes blank when i press the vehicle brake pedal. I noticed the LED brake lights on the top of the GC hatch are also blinking when the P3 controller is on. My trailer is not attached to the 7-pin connector at the moment.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, do the color codes on the wire harness match, or are they in the proper position in the connector? [could have a few wires crossed] Did you do any drilling in the dash board for mounting the unit? You may have drilled into a factory wire harness. Or it could just be a bad unit.

Thank you Bob. I did check the wiring and it matches up. No drilling as I used an existing hole to bolt on the mounting bracket. This is the second unit I have tried (both P3s) and both are acting the same.
