Stainless steel hitch ball?

Iím a rust hater. When I towed a boat, I had a stainless steel hitch ball. The Blue Ox has mild steel. I want to switch it out with a cold forged stainless steel hitch ball. My boat didnít weigh anything like my 27í Airstream trailer. Any concerns here?

There is not problem towing with a stainless steel ball hitch setup. Just make sure the gross tow weight meets the specifications. Here is a good site with stainless steel ball hitches and GTW.

It may be fine, but I could never tow with a stainless ball because I have seen how brittle stainless can be. I would worry about it too much even if there was no cause for worry.

Thatís just me, (opinions will invariably vary).

Good idea as long as the ball can carry the load. I seem to recall that stainless is more brittle than ferrous metal.

My hitch ball doesn't rust because I keep it slathered in wheel bearing grease. Living 1,000 feet from the ocean means everything else rusts... but not the hitch ball. Is "more grease!" an easier, proven solution?

I have a stainless ball mount. The ball itself is zinc coated. The nut is stainless. I think I got it at WalMart.
Reese has aluminum ball mounts on their website.

One of these may work for you.
