Sovereign GVWR

Does anyone know the GVWR of. 31 foot 1983 Soverign?
I'm being told by an EBayer that his is 7000.
That seems way too lite.
Thanks

I have a 1975 and a 1980 and the GVWR tag on them is 7100#. For some reason I think it went up a couple of hundred pounds around 1983/84.

According to the info I have, Sovereigns weren't made from 1980 to '83.

A 1984 31' had a dry wt. of 5,400 and a tongue wt. of 575.

For you guys quoting the dry weights...he is asking for the GVWR.

Airstream shows a 1982/3 Brochure on their website. Based on the print date of 11/82 I would assume it is for the 1983 model year...

Airstreams did not start getting really heavy until the late 1980's. During the 70's and early 80's they were still a fairly light trailer for their size. My 1975 with empty water and holding tanks tips the scales at about 5200# with a tongue weight of about 465#.

Davcarv, I have a 1984 Sovereign 27 ft. its GVWR is 6000lbs. Based on that alone, the 7000 lb may be close. Sorry I can't be exact but hope it helps.

(and having just spent the whole day waxing it, I think the next one might be about 5ft long!)

Why not just have him send you a photo of the data plate?

I'd be glad to give the GCWR if I had that information. I've used a pdf on weights posted from time to time on the Forum and I'm sure it has gaps just like every other document on Airstream history. It shows no '83's, but the ad from the link seems to be dated 11/82—probably when the ad was created, but doesn't tell when it was advertised. It could have been held well into '83 and the trailer been sold as an '84—there's no date saying "1982 [or '83] Sovereign. These things are never simple.

Casa's 27' is 6,000 loaded and it has a dry wt. of 4,820. That means nearly 1,200 lbs. cargo capacity. The 31' may have a little more (or less), but it is hard to know exactly since these things are not necessarily proportional. If the same cargo for a 31', that would mean 6,580 GCWR, but it could be hundreds of pounds either way.

Airstream's site (Airstream, Inc :: Specifications) has data on older models (often hard to read). For 83 they show a Sovereign 31 ft but not specs. For others: both the International and Excella show 6800 lb (dry weight plus additional allowed). For the Limited 31 the dry weight goes up by 600 or 800+ (depending on model) and total zooms to 8300. Hope this helps.

Another good link to bookmark is here:
airstreamguy.com - ** Airstream Lengths, Weights and Tongue Weight

Naturally, the GVWR is missing on this model though..
