Single wheel trailers

I'm thinking about mounting a single wheel trailer for a motorscooter behind my Bambi.

Can anyone tell me about the legallity, state to state, for this kind of a set-up? Thanx

I'll jump in. You'll get plenty of replies on why not to do it...

Many states allow it but all that I've reviewed require the middle unit (your Bambi) to have twin axles.

Not a good idea for many reasons.

Your listed state of Illinois has the same restriction as Arizona, the first trailer in a multi tow combination must be a 5th wheel.

What's going on up there in New River? As for the single wheel trailer, I have to agree - NO would be my answer.

Being an old guy, the only type of single wheel trailer I see in my mind's eye is a shallow one that mounts (clamps) in two places to the trailer's rear bumper and has a freely pivoting single wheel at its (the trailer's) rear end. This type of old 1940's design single wheel trailer should be heavy enough to carry a motor scooter yet be small and light enough to be a supported rear extension to the Bambi. Of course, I'm also visualizing a vintage 1961-63 Bambi, not a new one.

So beerrun'r, what type of single axle trailer did you have in mind when you asked the question? Can you post a picture?

The bed of a truck would be the best solution to this problem.

Did you bring this cold weather with you from Illinois?

Ditto for Minnesota. I seem to recall discussion on this before -- and not even all states allow the 5th wheel between option IIRC.

.......You said "single axle", but I assume you meant "single wheel".....so....you can google "single wheel trailers" and websights will come up. Yes, they're still around all these years after Montgomery Wards sold'em back in the 50's.....and my Bambi isn't "vintage", it's a 2006 19'.

...........I'm beginning to get that picture, also. In fact, I've just been doing a web search on fold-up gas scooters. My Yamaha Zuma'll just haffta stay home, I fear. I go to and camp at several motorsports events plus places such as Q and a little portable motorized transportation would come in handy from time to time.

On the cold AZ WX.....could be.....especially if there happened to be a lengthy delay effect at work here, but I sure don't think so. I've been here for a month and it was pretty nice until recently.

In the south where I am from, "Watch this", is usually followed in due time with, "Gee that sure was an ill planned idea I had." or "Wake up Bubba, You ain't seen a mess like this yet."

Up here in New England, "Watch this..." is usually followed by a trip to the emergency room and what's left behind, a trip to the junk yard!
