Have seen lot of double trailing in less populated parts of California.
The only problem is, that state allows 65' max length.
I was considering towing my PWC behind my travel trailer and local DMV wanted me to come with the setup for driving exam for special endorsement.
Once I've seen a guy driving a pickup, towing about 30' travel trailer and than off-road Jeep at the end. The setup wasn't looking too steady, or well tracking in Bay Area traffic, but he was "making it".
Don't let people who has never even tried something to discourage you.

Hello beerun'r,

I have a 70 honda trail 90 and have the same dilemma ,when my buddy with his dodge pickup doesn.t go along on the camping trips. Ive resigned to put it in the trailer thru the door ,the handlebars are quick release to turn sideways
just for such a thing .Its great to have it along and really too much fun .
you need to have a way to keep it from falling over and so on ,and its in the way somewhat if your going in the trailer at a rest stop or whatever ,but it will be with you when you reach your camping destination .The bike weighs
about 190 pounds and it sits at the doorway area by the gaucho.Ive got a ramp to roll it in with that works good .the only solution at this point so far if you want to bring the bike along .
