Should I upgrade??

I am trying to talk my husband into getting a Flying Cloud 28ft. We currently have an International 23ft. I need to convince him it will tow and back just as easily as the 23. He has a 4x4 5.3 liter Chevy truck. We plan to go to the Rockies this summer. Will his truck be able to pass muster?

Politicurl, the Chevy 5.3 should handle level or hilly ground easily, but work all the weights of the Cloud fully loaded and the Chevy loaded and using safety factors, make your decision. The Rockies could be difficult at times IMHO for the Chevy and the 28' Cloud.

I have the same truck except no 4 x 4. I have the 3.42 rear end. I tow my 28' Safari with no problem. On the steep grades you will be going slower for sure, but you will get there. If I were going through the rockys a couple of times a year I would want more truck but I only go maybe every second or third year. Going down south through the smokies is a breeze. Here in the midwest it isn't even an issue.
Our trailer weighs about 6500 loaded for camping. That is from the cat scales.

On the plus side the 28' will be easier to back than the 23'.

Hmmm... looks like a diesel is a good consideration for this. Oh well. Thanks for your reply.
