Rock Tamers.

As a newbie about to embark on our first trip. What are people’s thoughts on Rock Tamers for protection? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you get the Rock Tamers, and I think you should, be sure and follow the instructions about how low they should be set. If you set them too low, you will be stirring up rocks with the wind currents and throwing them into the front of your trailer.

Like Morgan guy said, and not because he lives in the same town, the important thing is the correct height. We’ve used ours for the last couple of years and they seem to work well. Per directions, we cut ours for height then hooked up with tongue weight and stabilizer bars. They touched the ground. I marked them again and recut. Works well. Be sure and tighten them well. Almost lost one outside of Little Rock sliding off the end of the bar. Good luck. Bubba

They're on my list of things to buy.
Since I don't venture far from asphalt, things like a TPMS came first.
I'd get these. Maybe in conjunction with a longer hitch shank.
It seems it will make removing the WD hitch really awkward.

I use the Rock Tamers on my Chevy 2500HD. Wouldn't leave home pulling my trailer without them. I bought them after I busted one of my plexiglass rock guards on my 27FB.

I’m considering Rock Tamers for my 2016 duramax. It looks as if the RTs would partially block the 45 degree exhaust on the truck. Were you able to get full curb to street coverage or did you compromise coverage and move RTs slightly inboard?

Thumbs up

The Burb also has a 45* outlet...I just shortened the T-pipe to move the exit forward. 👍

Mine go fully across past the exhaust. There is a pretty good gap between the end of the exhaust pipe and the flap. I have run it tens of 1000's of miles and have never had a problem. The back of the flap has no signs of heat issues.

Thanks Bob.
I see you have the towtector which I was also looking at as an option. That model offers a conversion kit for the duramax side exhaust, something that I don’t see for the rocktamers.

I bought the set from Airstream with their logo.
I am very happy with them but if you decide to remove the hitch they make it pretty awkward and heavy to carry or set anywhere.
I loosen the bolts before I take the hitch out of the receiver. I turn the shank downward and let the rock tamers slide off so they are face up on the ground. I then store them in the garage separately so the mud flaps don’t get kinked. Another option is to keep it all together and use a stand so the flaps hang straight down.
The 3 option I like best. Use a lock and leave them on the truck. Lol

I'm a big fan of the Rock Tamers product. Use in combination with the ProPride hitch. Extra weight not a problem. Good luck.

We have Rock Tamers. On long trips they go on and the hitch pretty much stays on the truck. It is not much harder to handle the hitch with the Rock Tamers but it is some harder. It is more that there is just no place to put it when it is off the truck. On short trips the Rock Tamers stay at home unless I know we will be on dirt roads.

I use two ropes to tie each side of the Rock Tamers to truck bed hook eyes on each side of the truck bed. The ropes hold the Rock Tamers up while I slide the hitch out. Then I untie each side letting them down gently to the ground. I store them on two heavy duty hooks mounted on my garage wall.

I prefer big rubber mudflaps on my truck. They keep the trailer and the quarter panel on the truck from getting beaten up by gravels.

I think you have a great idea.
I have mud-flaps installed on my truck and use the the rock tamers in addition to the dealer installed mud flaps. Great product for preventing rock damage to our trailer and tow vehicle. I consider it cheap insurance.

My flaps are old school rubber. They are about twice as wide as the tire and only a few inches from the ground when hitched. I doubt if much gets past them.
