ProPride Dolly
This stinger is heavy. It hurts when it falls from the stool I have it on when I am installing Rock Tamers on it and lands on my toes. I finally decided I needed to do something different. I don't know how much longer I will be able to lift the combined weight of 90+ lbs to insert it into my receiver. I decided to make a dolly to keep the stinger on and to use it to insert into the receiver. I measured the receiver height and made the dolly so the stinger was just at the right height and can be rolled right to the back of my truck for installation. See the photos for images of the dolly.

Looks like a real back saver. What is the purpose of the additional hardware you have installed on the stinger?

That's very cool. My bro-in-law built something similar for me. He's up the road from you near Weatherford. My hitch is just a little over half my weight, so that contraption really helps!

90 lbs?! How much of that is the rock savers, and how much is the stinger?

The other hardware is a handle that I use for lifting the stinger.

The stinger is about 57 lbs and the Rock Tamers are about 35 lbs.

Hmmm, now you have me thinking. I abandoned my Tamers because of the combined weight. I like your idea, thanks.

I had been meaning to make something up for a long time. You motivated me. Used your pics and my old height sheets and whipped one up in about 2 hours. Made mine a bit wider and longer than yours, for stability.

I would rather have a few rock dings than have to wrestle with a heavy "rock tamer" and a orange dunce cap on my HA stinger that would have to be left in the receiver. I have pulled my 31" Sovereign many miles with a very similar Suburban and no rock problems. I use a "protect a tow" with my motor home and toad and they also make a product for a Travel Trailer trailers that would be far easier to deal with. Just my thoughts.

It's only a matter of time......one little stretch, maybe 1/2 mile of construction stone where the stones were juuuuuust the right size to be picked up and thrown, and I had well over 100 pretty good dimples in my corner protectors. Rock Tamers are well worth their hassle for me.

Yes I know the stinger is set up very oddly. I Have to press my old Express van into service for the last two short trips of the season. Long story, but a recessed receiver that is only 11.5" off the ground makes for some pretty weird necessaries in adjusting and mounting.

I like your dolly also. I think though, I would have trouble keeping something that wide in my shop. It is crowded enough already.

Yeah, I thought of that, but with the flaps on, it can get teetery. I also will have space to store the batts on the top for the off season, freeing up some other floor space. There is also some room inside for other hardware storage. Still a work in process.

I put a pulley near the ceiling and hoist my rock guards up there when not in use.

I have to laugh....no more room for my flaps on the ceiling. I have hanging or on pulleys:
3 bikes
canoe
wheelbarrow
wet/dry vac
leaf blower
hedge trimmers
20' ladder
car top cargo carrier.
Don't even want to list what's on the walls!

Robert, that looks like a missle coming off the back of that Suburban.
