Prodigy P2 Brake Controller

I'm getting a digital read-out at times when the brake pedal is NOT depressed, usually after pulling off from a trafic light. I can clear the readout by depressing the brake pedal. The TV is a 2009 Silverado. The tech rep at Tekonsha says this is a common problem with GM model vehicles. He advised to disconnect the red lead on the controller wiring harness from the blue and white feed and re-connect to the orange feed.
Has any other Chevy/GM owners experienced this problem.

the readout is a number indicating power to the trailer brakes (as if brake pedal is depressed)
