I still have my Tekonsha P3 and liked it just fine on setting 3. However I changed to hydraulic disc brakes on my new axle.
I upgraded the P3 to the Tuson, DirecLink to work with the Tuson AccuLink electric/hydraulic actuator. I am now using the best brake controller system I have ever used DirecLink on brake scale #5 out off 20 and is super easy to change on the fly. It plugs into the OBD-2 in the tow vehicle and works amazingly well. Sorry I just can't say enough about the DirecLink.

I pull with a '16 GMC 3500 long bed 6.6L Diesel. The trailer is a '12 28' International. On a normal day the gain is set to 7 or 7.5 with a full water tank. I check before each trip to make sure that the setting is correct. If the road conditions change, I will lower the settings as needed. I use the set up instructions from the GMC owners manual to make the settings. After that, the system for the most part will self adjust based on the amount of brake pressure I am applying.

Mentioned several times in this thread, Hensley bump. What is that? We have a 2018 F-150 and picking up our 2020 Globetrotter 27 and we haven’t selected our hitch. ProPride or Hensley were our finalists.

How do you have a readout of the settings? Mine just has dials on either side and I just set it to feel right.

The “Hensley Bump” is a condition caused during heavy braking on the tow vehicle that is not matched by heavy braking on the trailer. What physically happens is the trapezoidal linkage bangs hard to one side with a bit of a bump sensation to the tow vehicle.

Setting the brake controller properly prevents this issue.
