Are you concerned that the mod could affect the MB warranty?

No not at all. The MB dealer I purchased it from was aware upfront that I was having the hitch reinforced and why. They actually documented it for future reference the first time I had it in for service. One of the dealer's owner/managers was going to have it done for towing their Airstream as well.

I spoke to my dealers service department today and he referred me to a truck/RV business to see how they may be able to help me.

I spoke to the Can-Am service manager about MB warranty issue when I had my hitch reinforced. He said that, in 40 years of reinforcing hitches, they have never had an issue. Pretty compelling.

Also, after the service, I had a third party customer satisfaction call. It was a pleasure to be able to say the job was completed in less time, and at lower cost than I anticipated.

Towing is not just about tongue weight and trailer weight, but also gross combined vehicle weight, and axle weight. Just because persons A, B and C have bee successful overloading the tow vehicle, does not mean you will be.

Most vehicles sold in the US, max tow weight is calculated with a full tank of gas and 1 , 150 - 180 lb, person in the drivers seat.

Please explain where anybody is suggesting to overload the tow vehicle. The big Mercedes has a higher payload than many a truck.

I weighed my 25' FC, full tanks and packed with everything for camping. The Durango had a full tank, the two people and two dogs and everything else we needed for camping.

I was within all of the limits.
