Newbie here

I drive a 2004 F150 Supercab with a 5.4 V8 with 162M miles (replaced motor 12m miles ago) and a 3.73 rear end. The trailer tow package is installed on this truck. It has a Caravan Camper installed on it (steel) and with a full tank of gas weighs 6800 pounds.

I am looking at purchasing a Sport 22FB AS. What do I need to know about towing (I know nothing....)

Hitches, balls, weight issues?

Max GCWR per ford is 13,500 #s.
Max trailer weight is 8,100 #s.
Per owners manual....

Am also interested in switching out lighting with LED's, and comments regarding solar versus generator.

Do you want to tow the trailer at the same time you are carrying the camper? You might exceed your truck's axle ratings and/or vehicle weight rating.

Look at your driver's door jamb to see if you can find a sticker that gives the axle weight ratings and vehicle weight rating. The Airstream web site gives the tongue weight of the 22FB as 393. That assumes there are no options installed, and no personal gear/food/etc. in the trailer. When loaded to go camping, the tongue weight will be higher.

You want your loaded truck weight + your loaded trailer tongue weight to be less than the F150's GVWR. You also want your truck's axle weights to be below their axle ratings. A "Weight Distribution Hitch" can be used to even out the load between the truck axles. So if you are OK on the GVWR, you should be OK on the axle ratings if you use a WDH.
