New Truck Hitch Setup Help

Wife and I recently bought a new 2015 GMC 2500HD Duramax 4x4 Crewcab. I need to set up Propride P3 hitch to connect 30' FC and 2500HD. I currently have 1400# spring bars included in the P3 setup. Everything as it is, I don't think I even need WD as the rear dropped only 1" and front remained unchanged without applying any pressure on the springbars. So my questions are: 1) should I leave WD spring bars off in that setup and still considered safe? 2) Do I need to adjust the stinger? 3) What is other concerns I need to be made aware?

You can put as much or as little tension on the bars as you want. Did Sean recommend the 1400 pound bars? If so just put some tension on them to bring the FRONT wheel wells back to about the same height as before you hitched. It will make a difference in the handling if you don't put some weight transfer in. It takes some careful experimenting to determine how much to raise the PP spring bar jacks. I use 5-6 inches on my setup with 1000 pound bRs to get good handling and eliminate porpoising under way. The bars aware there for a reason.

I'd also suggest calling Sean at ProPride and see what he says--he's the expert.

More pics after some adjustments

Actually, Sean recommended 1400# bars only because my VW Touareg was my only TV at the time. I understand that 1400# bars is too much for 2500HD as it will be too hard on the trailer.

I made a few tweaks to the stinger and the yoke. I made some measurements:

3-1/4" drop at the jack from unhooked to fully hooked

Rear axle: 10-1/2" to 9"
Front axle: 9" to 9 1/4"

Pictures show before and after hooking and the result of modified stringer/yoke. You can see that I have bars removed as a test.

I also sent an email to Steve.
