New shocks for my truck?

My tow vehicle is a 2009 Chevy Silverado LT crew 4x4 with the 5.3. Just got back from a ten day trip to the Olympic peninsula. Towing our 27 ft FB FC at 55-60 on US 101, lots of bumps in the road had the truck and trailer bouncing pretty good. We have 46000 miles on the truck, and I was thinking it might be time for new shocks and maybe bushings. Looking at KYBs on the Internet, does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?

Question

Are the shocks leaking, any symptoms when not towing?

More info on your rig would be helpful, rating of wd bars, hitch brand & weights.

'Bounce' while towing is more commonly caused by improper loading and set-up.....

I am a fan of Blstein shocks. At 46k your OEM's are probably shot.

KYB Monomax

I have used and currently have KYB Monomax on my Jeep TJ. I had them on my previous Dodge Ram truck and on a Montero we had.
A friend of mine thought they were the best to use on the previous generation Ford Explorers, to keep them from bottoming out, and he put the miles on them.
You should get 50k out of them easily. You can tell when a shock gets weaker. You get a little more bounce, nosedive when you hit the brakes hard, more lean into a curve. I don't like the lean. I like a vehicle that stays flat in a curve.
They work very well on the Jeep, it has coils at all four corners and they keep it from rolling around, good and firm. I like a firm ride.
They are red and come with black boots. KYB makes a good strong shock.

Another vote for the KYB Monomax's. I had Les Schwab install them on my Ram a couple years ago and they were an improvement over the ones that came from the factory. Not cheap, but Les Schwab gives them a lifetime warranty (and I hope to keep this truck for awhile).

That's what I did and the diffence was amazing. They won't take out the bumps, but they 'manage' the terrain vey well.

Well, our F150/23D 'combo' has a bit of 'bounce' ... nothing serious but, from time to time, irritating. I'm convinced it's the truck's OEM (obviously soft) shocks... the darned thing has 'bounce' even when not towing. Maybe I'm just spoiled to nineteen years with a tight Toyota Land Cruiser.

I'm strongly considering installing [much] stiffer rear shocks before the next 'big trip.'

That's my choice as well. They are spendy but really are a superb shock.

Well, today I got a price on KYB gas adjust shocks. About a thousand bucks for all four installed. Yikes.

Are Bilstien 5100's only for raised/lifted vehicles? Every time I search for them online I see notes that they are for raised or lifted vehicles.

So from this thread and other online forums it sounds like it's a toss up as far as whether Bilstein or KYB is the better shock. There seems to be equal preference for both. I'm planning to go with KYB since they're a bit lower in price.
