Ok- so what a coincidence- over the 4th - we are eating with family and my cousin and her husband were speaking that they just bought a sweet 58 impala as a "toy"- and speaking of my toys I recently sold- I said that we were looking for a 65-81 AS circa 27-31 feet... My cousin gleefully grinned and said we can buy "Rosie"-as they use it at their ranch for guests- here are the images posted by the prior owner they just bought her from just over a year ago- knowing my side if the family- this is going to be fun..,.

In her shining glory...

The rear bunks- we will be adding a third bunk against the front wall- possibly building a double bunk (for a total of 4) but will decide once we see useable space

Needless to say- we are very excited to get her and help them out as well...

If all goes as planned we will be out traveling early spring.... But maybe sooner....

Gorgeous! "All things come to they who wait" or something like that. Congratulations on your find--isn't it amazing sometimes how things work out?

Ok- so not sure what's going on but possibly not getting the AS we thought...

So we have located a 31 footer rear bath 81 Excella II - already has the quad bunks - very clean everything working-per the owner (we have spoken) if they were to keep it they would replace the middle size awning on the drivers side. Fully functional ready to go- includes 10K hitch, hoses, cords, etc-

SOooo... Other than the sag of a rear bath AS... Any pros/ cons versus rear or center bath????

Let's hear the sales pitches,,...

It's nice to have the bed in the back because there is usually a nice view since you tend to back into spaces. When the bathroom is in the back the toilet is right by a large window. Nice for looking out not nice for looking in. Airstreams were designed to have a very open feel inside them and when you start adding a room for the toilet and a room for the shower you are making the entire interior look smaller.

There you are-there is no right answer. You need to choose what works best for you.

Mark, thanks..... here is the issue - we have three boys - so modifications will be needed on just about any AS...
If we go with the rear bedroom/center bath - then we have to add a third bunk in the rear - but this also provides seperation between the kitchen/living area and the boys sleeping area.

going with the rear bathroom/center bedroom - the bathroom is larger and then two additional bunks can be added in the center room (one of the ones we are looking at already has this modification) but we have to go through thier sleeping area to get to the bathroom....

Still looking for anyone to chime in on any additional "things to watch for" on the rear bath models...or ant positive/negatives on the rear versus center bath....

With three boys I think the bunk beds and rear bath are the way to go. You will get a bigger bathroom and room for all the boys to sleep in their own beds.

We have found that no matter what- a lot of AS ers use the camp bathrooms for pooping anyway. No one likes to clean out the poop tank.

We have a '67 safari which is only 22' long. The bathroom has a bathtub. It is great for cleaning off dirty feet.

I also think that many AS have the bathroom in the back because of the weight distribution. The water tank is in the front and the black tank is in the back so the weight is distributed.

Good luck in the hunt! Denise
