New Ford Explorer V6 EcoBoost

Has anybody pulled or test pulled a Ford Explorer V6 EcoBoost with a 19' Airstream? I live in Colorado so I would like something with plenty of power. It has 365 HP with 350 lbs of torque with 6 speed transmission.

Or has anybody test pulled or pulled the regular V6 Ford Explorer with 19' Airstream. It only has 290 HP/265 Torque so I am guessing it would be very disappointing pulling it through Colorado.

Thanks

We pull our 19-foot Bambi with a Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 (381 hp, 401 ft lb of torque, 6-speed). The specs on your vehicle sound very similar.

Since our TV and Airstream easily climb the grade on the Eisenhower Tunnel (both ways), I would guess that your Ford would be fine, too.

We have towed our Bambi all over the mountain west, and we have never had any difficulties on grades. It can pull at any legal speed limit on any grade, and accelerate to pass while climbing.

However, I have never driven or towed with the Ford you describe; so this is just a guess...

Contact Andy in Canada. He can retro-fit a Smart car to tow a 34', so improving the towing capabilities on an Explorer should be a snap for him.

I don't think you can rely on what others say, as different people have different comfort levels. You should test tow with a vehicle that has 150 HP/180 torque and also test tow with a vehicle with 365 HP/350 torque and decide for yourself which one you find capable/safe/etc.

Take a look at the Dodge SRT Hellcat. With 707 supercharged HP it might be okay with the Bambi up a grade.
