Need help with trailer tow wires

all,

when i purchased my 68 26' overlander, there was a temporary tow light setup and the original 7 wire harness was cut and wrapped in tape.

i removed the tape today and took a photo - i'd like to test the trailer running lights so can someone please explain which wires i would need to hook up to the positive and negative terminals of a battery to test running lights and is it possible to test brake lights without it being hooked up to a car?

i plan to purchase the proper round harness at some point in the future and will not be towing it for quite some time but just wat to see if things are working or if bulbs need replacing.

thanks

Here is a recent thread that has some good information on the older and newer model 7 pin connectors. I attached diagrams in post # 11 that show the 7 wire color codes for both the older and new model 7 pin connectors. Hope this helps,

You can use a battery charger to power the circuits to test the lights.

WARNING: Do NOT use a battery with no fuse to protect the wiring. This could cause damage to the wires and/or a fire if there is a short.

Also do not power the electric brakes for more then 5 minutes as this can damage the brakes and axles.

I second using a battery charger. Also keep in mind, the bulb sockets may be corroded. Requiring some cleanup or perhaps upgrade.
