Need a hitch lock for a 2004 19' Bambi

So I have bought 2 hitch locks that do not fit my 2004 19' Bambi. One was a California immobilizer that was too small. I have done extensive research but the only one I found was like $200. Can someone recommend one that will fit the tounge of my Bambi.

There is a master lock #33 coupler lock on Ebay that is brand new. This a very good lock. It has key that open small hole on bottom, insert allan wrench into hole turns hardened plunger up into ball hole in coupler, no way to remove with out reverse these steps or pick lock that any thing with key can be done. Can not be cut with bolt cutters etc. Upgrade this model also avble. more money. I like this model have had one many years, plus not bulky.

Thanks, that's some good Intel. I found the 33 on Amazon and also the 34. Any idea what the difference is?

I found that most regular hitch locks don't fit on my 19' 2008 Safari SE due to the design of the ball receiver. I picked this one up at an RV show. Works great. About $100 Canadian.

...but I now re-read your post and it appears the "California Immobilizer" didn't work for you. Maybe they have more than one model. Try giving them a call.

a master lock on the coupler and the 10252 in huge red letters on the front and back of the trailer- that's what I use for my false sense of security. I leave the spare tire unlocked because I figure the day I have a flat tire will be the day it is cold and rainy on a 2-lane road and getting a lock off would be real fun. If someone wants to get into or take a trailer they will figure out a way and I have been persuaded that the more protection you put on the trailer the more damage they will do in doing their deed. I did seriously look at a Denver Boot type device and decided that I would be more likely to rip off an axle myself by getting in a hurry and forgetting it was there than ever preventing a theft ... I can hear the gasps now but this works for me and so far no issues

I tried the master locks until I saw the video of the guy breaking them with a hammer in like 10 seconds. Not worth it. Might as well not have any. You need to spend some cash to get something that might stand up to the average hammer or saw.

In the video that is quoted above, I did not see master lock coupler lock #33 that I cited in my above post or it's upgrade model only locks that I wouldn't even consider purchasing. Bill

Yes, but they are of similar design and materials. You can't expect to spend $50 and have the thing withstand a sledgehammer. You have to spend money for something durable that is not going to fold when subjected to the punishment of the video.

The California immobilizer is a good design, but if that doesn't work the Proven Industries lock will definitely not fold. But it costs $300. They do make a model specifically for Airstreams.

In this category, you get what you pay for.

Just remember, it doesn't matter what you get, whether it is $5 or $5000 lock, if they want it bad enough, no lock is 100% secure. So to argue that someone did it in 10 seconds, 100 seconds, or 1 second, it doesn't matter if they want it bad enough.

For me, I got the master lock and put it through the coupler. Works for me. In addition, I also put a wheel lock.

Agreed. But deterring the casual criminal with a sledgehammer is possible. But not with a $50 lock.

Ditto!
We have used a Brinkman combination lock for several years with no problems looped through the hitch lock coupler.

We also have a case hardened hitch lock from Fastway which came with one of our earlier AS's; but, we have never used it. http://www.etrailer.com/Locks/Fastway/DT25013.html

As was said earlier, if they want it, they will get it....

How Is key slot protected from being picked? Keyed locks can be picked in seconds. In pics of lock does not show key slot only red cover and various pieces.

Had the same issue with our '08 Bambi, settled on a combination Master lock, hardened steel. Also used a Master steering wheel lock for a while, slotted well into the stock wheels.

A cheap lock beats no lock. And in any case a cordless angle grinder will be through any lock device in seconds.

Just a second thought. Any lock will only serve, successfully or not, as a deterrent. Your best protection is a stated value insurance policy IMO.

Okay, ended up buying this one:

http://immobilize.com/products/coupl...r-coupler-lock

It's only taken a lot of on line research to NOT find a lock that will fit. 5 minute call to California Immobilizer and I found out they do make an Airstream specific lock. So yeah, if someone has a lot of time on their hands and the right tools they will get a coupler lock off. But most criminals are looking for a quick grab and go. So a California Immobilizer on the ball part and a masterlock on the flip up part on the coupler should be plenty to deter an amateur thief. If I happen to run into a professional Airstream thief then at least I tried.

After I had a zeroturn mower stolen out of my yard and hauled away on my 16' utility trailer I got serious about locking down my Airstream.

Here's a pic of what I use. No one is going to get through the Fastway lock without making a LOT of noise. Then they have to cut the Master lock holding the hitch lever down to use the hitch.

The only key in the Master Key Hider is the deadbolt key. The other keys are hidden in the trailer.

Wheel cover locks as well as hitch. Even a fast cutting tool starts to take time.
