Hi
My name's David Winick. I build custom Airstream trailers for a living. Unfortunately, I do not install brake controllers and when my girlfriend bought a 2014 VW Touareg I did some research and found that VW seemed to have completely dropped the ball. When it came to adding a brake a brake controller their part ended with their harness under the dash. The vehicle came stock with the tow package and 7-way connector. VW did not make a harness that would adapt to the harness under the dash to plug in a brake controller.
I found that you can buy a VW plastic harness, 2 VW wires, cut them in half to make 4, add a 12v relay and then splice this all into the Tekonsha harness.

I wanted to enlighten those who are wanting to add a brake controller and don't wish to go through all of this hassle and time. I'm sure many are not that handy and it's beyond their scope of skills. No worries. VW dealers don't have a clue as to installing a brake controller. Some dealers say that there is already one in the vehicle (morons).
There is a man on eBay that makes a plug and play harness for the VW Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne. You can get the harness with or without a relay. It's professionally made.

This should speed up installation of a Tekonsha P3 controller.
