Thanks dznf0g for the lube information. Found it on Amazon. Choices were 4 oz for $7.99, 8 oz for $13.05 and 32 oz for $34.95. They added shipping (could not go by US Mail) and local sales tax.

This works for a lot of stuck stuff, haha too...
Spray on the weatherstrips for easy open AS windows and frozen shut car doors.

For some applications I just don't like WD40. Attracts to much dirt and hinges turn black from metal on metal. Not really a good lubricant.

Rich,
True, but WD-40 now seem to market quite a few different products under the WD-40 name besides the original formula, which, as you say was not originally intended as a lubricant.

True, and I haven't tried many of their other products.

WD-40 WD = water dispersant 40 = 40th formula tried
It is not a lubricant, but more of a cleaner. I was told by an electric motor overhaul shop to NEVER use WD-40 as a lubricant in electric motor bearings.
But it sure cuts the road grease on the Airstream stainless steel stone shields.

I used WD-40 for 40 years to clean motorcycle chains, cables, etc. You can properly lubricate! The WD-40 facilitates penetration of the fresh lube. Then dissipates... My MC chains outlasted others by 3 times... And sprockets lasted longer too.
I use WD-40 to clean all AS hitch mechanism every 6 months. Using about 1/3 of. Can.

Yes, it is a good cleaner and does have some proper applications...I'm not bad mouthing it. There are just some applications, listed above, for which I don't think it is the best option.

I found the same thing - i.e WD-40 is great on the rock guards. I discovered that after really making a mess out of them with Walbernize. That was not a good idea!

Hitching the HAHA
Thanks dznf0g and rmkrum for your comments on hitching with the trailer and tow truck less than straight. It was tough enough learning to hitch with the truck and trailer aligned. Voluntarily allowing another parameter in the problem is unwelcome. If there is simply no alternative it's good to know that there are more tools available.

I wonder if it might be helpful for people to see (a video?) the range of possibilities in one of these hitch heads? I visualize mechanical things fairly easily, a skill my profession has polished. Based on the number of posts on the difficulty of hitching a pivot projection hitch, I'm guessing that people do not understand the dynamics of the motion of the hitch head, especially once something moves in relation to the last time unhitched.
I know that Hensley suggests that you move a springbar jack up and down on an unhitched trailer to see what happens but...
Maybe I will make a video...

Good idea! Didn't you and Dorsey do one that was pretty much a straight shot? Showing access by multiple angles, tilt of the head assembly, how the WD jacks can be adjusts to align with the stinger on uphill/downhill approaches etc. would be great! I know there's a campground owner who would have been glad if I had known this stuff in my first year with it 😳😃

Bar Keepers Friend works great on rock guards too.

I've used conventional hitches in the past but when I discovered the Hensley it was a whole different experience. I could turn the trailer easier and the towing mess stayed on the trailer. I loved this new hitch. Cross winds, what cross winds? You don't even know they're there. Stability on rough roads, better handling of the rig. All this made a believer out of me.
Then one day it broke. I was gutted. It left me stranded. The hitch was beyond repair breaking in multiple spots. To get home I had to buy a conventional hitch again. Towing was a night mare. I finally got really good at hooking it up and then I was back to a conventional hitch again. I took it to the towing guru who made it a lot better but it wasn't a Hensley. Hooking up the hitch with the chains became a nightmare. I couldn't get them done up in my driveway. I have the trailer at 2 different angles and the TV at two other angles on a steep slope. But sway was the bigger issue. Sometimes it would tow great and then it would be a nightmare.
Finally after a year of fighting with the conventional hitch I brought the trailer back to CanAm fully loaded instead of empty as every other time. We were both surprised that the tounge weight was less than 750 lbs or %10 for a 31 classic. The only solution was to go back to the Hensley. CanAm modified a new reused Hensley so that it shouldn't break again. It took some getting used to hooking it up again, but I feel much better with it again. Hopefully the hitch will last this time.
As a bonus my rear cargo door opens again without hitting the tounge jack and scrapping all the paint off. I guess now I can get that repainted....

It is always a straight shot if you understand how it works Steve.
We will have to do a little video on how the jacks impact the angle of the hitch.
I think the worst time I ever had with the hitch required about 2 extra minutes to deal with and we have been in some strange spots with out trailer!

Great idea, would love to see a video. I "think" I know the tricks for an easy hookup with the Hensley now after lots of experimenting, but there's always something to learn!
Brian.

Our stream came with a Hensley. At first I thought I was in way over my head. Spent a short while on YouTube and got to hitchin. Short learning curve and easy to master. No problems and love the control. Knowing what I know now I would do it all over again. Biased I guess. Great hitch and easy to master.
