But is it electrically conductive? You know we're getting older.

If you fail to lubricate the ball, you end up with a very basic type of European sway control.
In EU the coupler clamps onto the ball with enough pressure to provide some frictional sway damping by stiffening the tow vehicle/trailer connection.
It's a little bit like having a very small friction type sway control.
Not sure if it has any real effect. This is just a theoretical consideration.

SYNTHETIC BALL GREASE for 2015 30 foot Airstreams

Msmoto... you have to keep greasing the gears if you want things to run properly. Did you know the 2015 30 foot International requires Synthetic Ball Grease? Now, you cannot even use the real stuff any more.

I had considered a Thread covering preferences in Toothpaste or Toilet Paper in public restrooms/RV Parks/ Gas Stations... but with all of the ball greasing going on... it will have to wait.

As a byproduct of my researching ball grease, I discovered that Toilet Paper has become thinner and narrower in public restrooms. Toothpaste comes in larger six month tubes today, while the dentist gives out a week supply to keep your teeth fresh and clean for six month check ups.

There might be a correlation and it will need some help from Airforum members. So many issues... so little snow time to finish them.

It is dumping on Castle Rock. The white fluffy stuff. ATVed the driveway today, shoveled the decks and you would not know it!

The European sway control with minimal friction works best in cold weather.

Synthetic ball grease

@Ray Eklund

Golly thanks for the update on the synthetic ball grease. Now I know that to be the one who always tries to row upstream, my use of fifth wheel hitch grease on the ball is what I want... it really leaves a nice mark on your leg and washes off only with lots of brushing and soap.......

Of course some of us just leave the mark there ... a red badge of courage - so to speak. Especially good in the summer while wearing shorts! What a collection - some say better than tattoos ... YMMV
How many pairs of pants have I ruined ...? or saved ... If only DW would let me keep the marks ...something about grease on the sheets ...

On the other forum their is a lot of talk of loose balls, here we talk of greasing the balls,I wonder if one should grease the balls before or after one tightens them ???

If you want to lube your moving hitch joints ---- use lithium grease. A little 'dab' will do ya ---- and NO mess like other grease. A little jar will last forever. I used to get it at Camping World.

When I was much younger my balls were much looser and I was lucky to never have any problems from that. Nowadays no common preventatives can be relied upon to avoid problems and I worry for the younger-set.

I've read the concerns about loosening balls with interest and note that EVERYONE should avoid relying upon lock-washers and torque and/or grease to prevent loose balls. Trailer balls should be secured with locking devices such as cotters, pins, or by welding. Some hitches have the balls permanently machined to the hitch (my personal preference... I never want my balls to become separated from where they were intended to be permanently mounted.)

Tow & Stow™ Adjustable Ball Mounts | B & W Trailer Hitches

I am not a greaser. But I am an inspector and I look the equipment over regularly and replace/repair anything worn out.
