GM Towing app

Just read that GM released a towing app. Haven't looked at it yet.

I tried it. It is for GMC labeled vehicles. It only offers basic lookup and recommends max tow weight for bumper or 5th wheel attachment.

At least maybe it will get some customers to read it. Lord knows, very few read the owner manual. (Not talking about Forum folks....we tend to be much more informed than the average car buyer). Maybe it'll reach the younger, electronic only crowd.

I prefer paper, but it is nice to be able to have a handy "what will it tow" calculator app on an electronic device.

Note that in nearly every manufacturer's website concerning towing, you'll find their vehicle towing an Airstream. I would be more impressed to see the GMC 1500 MaxTow pulling a fully loaded 34' classic.

Top! Are you gigging me? I would too, but alas, I don't think the rear RGAWR will be there when it comes out on 4th quarter. I think it'll run the SAE performance test like a scalded dog, but I don't think we'll see a RGAWR for a 34'er. (or some other models as well)

No, not trying to get you all riled up.

The double cab/standard box 5.3/3.73 shows RGAWR as 3950 lbs/4100 lbs w/NHT

Will the MaxTow have any more rear axle capacity or is it simply the 420HP engine with the same chassis/springs etc?

I don't know the tare weight of the rear.

I would still be more impressed to see it pulling a fully loaded 34' and the truck filled with passengers, generators, kayaks and all the other things that are typically loaded for a week of camping. You know, be realistic.

I don't have that level of detail yet, and if I did, I would be prohibited in revealing it till the official announcement is made. I have heard a max payload number thrown around, but it is just "bar talk".

I was thinking a 1500 max tow for my 30' classic. Will be interested to see how it's rated.

I am also interested in that. I'm going to take the demo I have on order, 2014 crew cab, regular bed 5.3 without maxtow and load it up and go to the scales. It'll at least give me an idea of where I'll be when the 6.2L maxtow arrives to market. I should get it in about 4 weeks.

dznf0g,

I'm picking up my new and loaded 2014 Silverado tomorrow! Can't wait. The test drive was wonderful - the smoothest riding and quietest pick up ever.

NICE, thanks for your business. The quietness is the first thing that struck me at a fleet ride and drive we had a couple months ago. It is a huge step forward.

Check this out:

On a show tour from the SW side of chicago, up I94 through Milwaukee and to the west side of Minneapolis (at rush hour), 70 mph most of the time, no wind to speak of.

Rich,

That's some good mileage - definitely looking forward to that.
