Fuel Additives?

What's the story on Diesel fule additives like Diesel-Kleen, etc?
Are they just a waste of money, or do they make a difference?

any of the truck/diesel forums will have massive digital piles on fuel additives. there are a few bits here too.

some additives alter gel point, others boost lubrication, others increase cetane rating, others clean stuff, some absorb water or segregate it, some are fungicides.....and so on.

i use stanadyne because charles on the powerstroke forums told me too
and because it boosts cetane (the most) and lubes and does all that other good stuff...

as i understand it ford is or will be selling the stanadyne under the ford label.

now comes the testimonials..........
so put your tall boots on.....
it also seems to boost my mgp from 1-2 mpg....so when i factor fuel cost + additive cost....it becomes economical....

for reference, i do not have deer sonar things or the air torando on my truck

i spent a few weeks and a few 1000 miles conducting my own trials with it before concluding it was useful...

My experience with gasoline large V-8 engines is that most do not run hot enough to completely burn the fuel because low temperature thermostats are installed in the cooling system. This leads to unburned fuel and soft carbon deposits in the intake system that cause the engine to continue to run after being shut off. The first thing I do when I buy a used gas vehicle is to change the fuel filter (along with other filters) and add Seafoam to the gas tank. At the same time I change the oil & filter & add a can of Seafoam to the crankcase with the new oil. I then change the oil again after 1000 miles. It usually is black with dissolved carbon. Performance and gas mileage is increased and the "dieseling" usually stops

I put Marvel Mystery Oil in my Goldwing and got 4mpg better hauling a passenger than I got riding solo. It seemed to pick up better also. Is it witch's brew or just automatic transmission fluid? You tell me, but I've tried it several times and it always worked.

Gee, just think of the mileage you could get if you put the air torando and deer sonar things BACK ON
