Freakishly Good MPG

2013 Nissan Pathfinder towing our 22 Safari Sport the 300 plus miles from San Diego to Bishop, CA (Eastern Sierras). Flat out 17 plus MPG at 63 MPH. Real world 14.8 overall. Has anyone gotten better mileage than this with an Airstream in tow? PS I have no idea why two of the pics are upside down.

Yup! 22mpg with my Tundra towing a 26' Argosy just north of El Centro, Ca. Early morning 200+ feet below sea level must have helped.
Normally get 11 to 14mpg towing.

My best friend with a 2014 tundra gets 15 not towing anything highway and 9 towing his little bass boat.

He is probably not using "tow/haul" and "S" mode.
Is it 4WD?

That is good mileage for sure.

A variable that affects my milage a lot is the wind. Tailwinds good. Headwinds not so good.

Unfortunately the thing that drops my milage the most is stops and starts. And I stop pretty much every hour.

My Tundra gets 17 hwy with no trailer and 11.7 towing.

Maybe you had that super secret carburetor that everyone had heard about invented until the men in black from the oil companies took it away.

PS:
If you have a way to resize the photos (like Preview in Mac) I hear that cures the odd orientation.........or hold the camera right side up?

I have a Cummins with upgraded marine injectors and it averages about 17.5 MPG after the upgrade maybe 20-22 in the freeway and it don't care if you drive 55 or 80.


With my old gelcoat 11000lb ship anchor camper, the mpgs dropped to 8mpg while towing. Now with my Airstream it gets the same old 17.5 mph towing the camper. I don't even know its back there, Me happy

We would all get that mileage if we had the ability to drive upside down like you BUT WE DON'T.

My on-board mileage is always on the optimistic side. That's why I do the math myself.

I've gotten 16.8 mpg pulling our FC with an F150. It surprised me but thinking it over, we were in highly favorable conditions. Tailwind, drafting behind semis and doing a lot of down hill so it's no longer thought impossible. I get 13 on avg. too but also been as low as 11.

My 2014 Tundra gets 17 Mpg normal driving and 13.5 Mpg towing. This is the 5.7 L TUNDRA I am using, is yours the 4.7L engine?? I know the 4.7L gets slightly better MPG.

Highest I’ve come across is mid twenties pulling a 22’ or shorter with a diesel Jetta.

I’ve averaged 15 with the rig in sig.
