Franklin Div Coupling
The coupling on my 1982 Excella simply states Franklin Div. Class 4 64410200. When I look online for Franklin, I can find no information on the company. Does anyone know something about Franklin? Is the mfg or it a subsidiary of a larger company?

Franklin Div Coupling
The Franklin Div and the Class 4 is just in front of the hole for the power jack and the number is on the street side of the coupling just be hide the part that holds the ball

Franklin was/is a division of Attwood. Repair parts are available.

Thanks for the information. I was looking at buying an Anderson wd system that is not compatible with several models of the attwood couplings.

You should have no compatibility issues with the very effective and affordable Andersen WD System. In fact there is not one documented case of a trailer separating from the tow vehicle while on the road and using the Andersen WD system contrary to what one member here keeps parroting.

I just received a reply from Atwood. They said that this was their Marvel style coupling and that did not want the WD system used because it would cause force to be applied to the ball clamp and cause undue wear on the coupler.

MY Bambi II had a Marvel coupler. It was 50 years old. I used an Andersen WD system on it for for three years with no noticeable additional wear. I went as far as buying a coupler rebuilt kit. I left it unused in the trailer when sold.

From the discussions I have hear this WD system causes increased wear to components that have some normal wear patterns. From your comments the wear is not that dramatic

The heavier the trailer, the more likely the higher wear.
As it is, an Andersen cannot exert proper leverage for any but the lightest trailers for correct weight distribution
It's rather an expensive device to take the edge off incipient sway.
A Bambi is one thing, a modern 25' quite another.

I suspected that would be their response. I was very happy with the Andersen. Unfortunetly I fell for the sky is falling babble here and bought the Blue Ox SwayPro for the Safari. Due to my own personal safety issues with the BO I will be replacing it as soon as I am able with a new Andersen.

Chief, just get you a Cub, go for equal squat and never look back again. Your rig can handle the little extra weight. Can use jacks versus snap chains.
