You can get the short bed, Supercrew, with the Max Trailer Tow Package, which includes the 36G tank. It is offered on all models except "Limited or Rapter". But, it's when you start "adding in" all the other options, with the Platinum and King Ranch models, that the Payload goes way down, from what I have seen. That is why a nicely loaded Lariat like the one speced below (from David), is a great solution for the F150. Should come in at 1800lbs+

The 10 speed tranny is one you should avoid at all costs until they resolve the design and production issues.

Specifics please. There was an initial delay for a software update on the transmission, but I haven't heard any significant complaints about the 10R80 so far (and I follow some F150 forums).

I've probably said too much already. I'm just giving you inside info.

It looks like my imaginings of ~1800 lb were a bit ambitious, probably based on faulty memory of how the King Ranch I test drove was equipped (it had around 1740 lb payload.) Kscherzi's truck is already delivered and essentially the same configuration as mine (shown in my window sticker above) and his payload is 1660 lb. I'm still happy with that, but I thought it would be slightly more than the KR I drove, rather than less. My best guess is that the KR didn't have the 36-gallon tank, since 13 gallons of gas weighs right at 80 lb.

I have to say it doesn't carry much weight with no information about the problem or why you'd have inside info. I know there's a risk to buying the first-year powertrain but a) I'm probably buying a service plan and b) I'm not afraid to shove it back down their throats via lemon law if that turns out to be the case so I'm not going to cancel my order on a whispered suggestion that there's a giant problem no one on the F150 forums has mentioned.

Since I just took possession of a new 2017 with the 10 speed then I must be doomed.

I could certainly manage with 1660. My alternative is a SuperCab with HDPP but I'd be giving up the nice Crew 4-door and some of the goodies that come in the package. Choices...
