First Towing

So, I just bought a 1968 Airstream Safari and I am traveling to pick her up and bring her back to my home - about 2200 miles. So, I'm looking forward to getting involved with other airstreamers and I'd like to start by getting some advice for towing. I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline with a tow package. What should I know before I start out from Texas to Washington State? Also, what type of insurance do you carry for it? Any other things I need before I get her home? Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to sharing more adventures with you all soon! Lisa

my two cents...after hitching make sure to check under trailer nothing is hunging or loose
2. electric or manual jack all the way up
3. make sure all safety pins are in place (cotter pins)
4. tire pressure at specs
5.electrical chord secure some slack for turning
6. test your electric brake before taking off. you want the trailer brakes to lock when applied past mid point ( my personal experience thats where i like them).
7 set your hondas engine braking assist if you have it.
8. cross the trailer chains when attaching to hitch.
9. do a safety check on your trailer lights.
10. if you are not using the refrigerator, make sure your gas supply is turn off.
11. all windows and vents at closed and lock position.
12. spare tire for trailer.
13. jack
14. stop and do a safety check on trailer first 1/2, one mile just to make sure everything looks ready for long trip.

when stopping and resting for a while make sure you phase your truck and trailer ready to pull out! when you can control the parking thats the best policy. you dont want to be waking up people to move just because you didnt plan ahead.
