my 2011 f150 has max tow and heavy duty payload and ecoboost and 8 foot box.
Payload is 2700 lb. Now you can't get that in the fancy packages. Probably only in a XLT. But tow capacity is also 11,200lb.
3.73 rear axle ratio. the mileage is still really good if you keep your speed reasonable.
Check out all available packages before deciding.

You can get HD payload in 2 configurations of Lariat trim also, but nothing higher.

Lariat is more than enough for me, thought King Ranch seats are VERY nice.

Unfortunately there are none in stock the majority of the time.And then there is the question do the really ride a lot softer than the f250 being a over sprung 1/2 ton with a light duty chassis and brakes.What will the resale value be as it is not a cushy 1/2 city truck nor is it the 3/4 Superduty workhorse.Steel wheels only on the HD payload pack... Who knows about the real cost savings if any to go with a small v6 with tiurbos and Hd springs or a 3/4 ton with hd chassis, brakes,rear differential and progressive springs not to mention radiator transmission driveshaft and all the other differences along a proven resale track record.The initial cost upfront is one thing but if you ever sell your vehicles or trade them in you must also factor in resale for a true cost.I myself did not see any significant mileage difference when researching after you lower the gear ratio on the 1/2 ton.
When I found that the dealers would not stock the HD package on the F150 Iknew it was not for me.But everyone has there own opinion that's what makes this a great world.

I have the 2012 Lariat Supercrew, Ecoboost, HD Payload, Max Tow. 6.5ft box.

2150 lbs payload as listed on the door jam. Within a few pounds when measured on the scales.

Tow capacity is 8900 lbs when truck at maximum payload.

It was hard to find this truck - I could have special ordered, however we wanted to get one sooner then the order lead time. It was the end of the 2012 model year and there was only 1 left in Canada. I had to travel about 1400kms to get it...fun road trip. Seriously.

What you're talking about may be opinion, but it's certainly not fact. I'm sure XLs with HD payload have steel wheels, but Lariats have 17" aluminum 7-lug wheels. It's not about being "oversprung", it's a different rear axle with the 7-lug hubs and E-rated tires from the factory. If you want to buy an F250 go ahead, there are plenty out there. Don't tell people who don't want a 3/4 ton truck they are making a mistake and then pretend that's not what you're doing.

Just another data point on payload. I have a 2013 Lariat SuperCrew, EcoBoost, MaxTow, 5.5 ft box, 3.73 rear axle. My payload sticker is listed as 1738 lbs. I've been happy with the mpg. HD payload would have been nice, but truck length was a factor.

Sorry I have no hidden agenda to convert the world into buying 3/4 ton trucks.Nor is it a conspiracy to do away with F150's And if you can now get 17 inch wheels in alloy I stand corrected

.I also went thru this decision process and found the factory literature to be very confusing with a lot of astrics and fine print.The dealership employees could not answer many of my questions when it came time to make a decision on purchasing .So I dug deeper into researching the pros and cons of each model and I thought I would share it with the people looking now to purchase.

My 76 has a reasonably light tongue (~500 dry) and we travel lightly enough - I don't expect to put much, if anything, in the truck box.

Get yourself a nice sedan. A minivan. Something sensible.

My folks pulled their heavier 1975 Silver Streak all over the US and Canada with a luxury sedan for more than 12-years (before replacing it with another vehicle). And as many as four adults plus a teen aboard.

A TV with a low center of gravity and fully independent suspension is a much better match in every respect. A truck worsens every aspect of road performance and braking.

Take your time. There is no challenge in pulling that trailer from any aspect.

Payload sticker is # 1,642 - and that factors in full fuel IIRC? (26 gal.)

Tongue weight is between #530 and #700 - depends.

2 adults in the cab, a few hundred in the bed for camping.

EcoBoost RULES! - don't even know the trailer is there. Like a little diesel.

400+ ft./lbs. torque at 2,000 or so..................NICE!

I get around 12 MPG when towing a #5,100ish 27' 1966 T27 Avion

20 MPG when not towing on the Hwy at 75 MPH (Texas!)

BTW - The back seat legroom in a SuperCrew is FANTASTIC - like a limo!.

The only thing I may change is a switch to LT E rated tires......as it comes with HD P's
