F150 Backup Assist sticker

Hi all

Has anyone successfully installed the backup assist sticker on the front of their AS using the Ford supplied instructions/measurement guide?

The shroud for the propane tanks is in the way on our 2015 FC28. We have a 2017 F150 XLT. I thought I saw a thread on one of the forums but I can not find it. (I haven't quite figured out how to use the search tool without getting 100s of results that may or may not have any thing to do with the search words I entered)

Thank you
Randy & K. C.

Hi Randy and K.C. We have a 2017 F150 Lariat and a 2017 25' FC. I placed my sticker as far rearward as I could on the passenger side yoke of the A-frame, right up against the propane tank cover. This gave me a distance of 9.5" from the center of the sticker to the center of the hitch ball. Ford recommends that the ENTIRE sticker be in a range between 7" and 22" from the hitch ball. In my case, because of the restricted clearance that you noted, about 1/2" of the sticker was outside this range so I was concerned as to whether the camera would see it properly. To my surprise, after inputting all of the required measurements the camera picked up the sticker and the computer registered it on the first try. The calibration then happened with no problems.

The system works amazingly well most of the time. I've found, though, that under certain lighting conditions and with the trailer and TV at certain angles to one another, the camera will lose it's fix on the sticker and the system will abort. This has happened more than once in the middle of backing up my steep curved driveway which is, to say the least, inconvenient so I've taken to backing my driveway the old fashioned way. It's possible that the borderline placement of my sticker is part of the problem. If the available sticker space on the 2014 FC is different than my 2017 then it might be an issue for you.

Hope that was a little helpful.

Mike

I can second this approach. Works great and since I've only backed up the trailer a few times I haven't had any issues (yet).

Ditto for the 3rd time. I moved the emergency trailer brake box to the right side of my trailer and placed my sticker right up against the propane covers on our 2016 22FB on the driver side of the A frame. Part of the sticker is actually under the tank cover which is the cheap plastic cover but it hasn't made any difference and the system works really well. I got several of the stickers when I bought my truck a 17 F150 Lariat. If my first attempt wasn't going to work I was going to experiment with alternative places to attach it including on the front side of the tank covers. As long as you stay within the parameters set by Ford it should work. I would suggest caution that you use clear tape to attach it until you figure it out.

Thank you everyone. I tried on the tank cover and on the A frame. Could. Or get it to pick up at either. Finally realized the problem was the bright light reflection. Asked the wife to hold the map book to shade the area and the computer picked it up. I won't be able to have the wife hold the map book while I'm using it so may try to rig up a shade of some sort for bright days.

Thank you all for your help. For those still trying to figure it, out several posted pictures on FaceBook "Airstream Addicts" group.

Hi

The contrast on the sticker probably will be enhanced if you "black out" the front of the LP tank cover. At least you will eliminate a reflection from right next to the sticker. Yes, you can carry that process a bit further. I would not recommend painting the entire front of the AS flat black
