Enkay Mud Flaps and Hensley Hitch

Hi,

We have a 2005 30' Classic with the Hensley Arrow hitch which we will be towing with our 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD. We are thinking of getting the mudflaps from Enkay and want to know if this will work with the Hensley Arrow hitch.

When I called Enkay, they said that it can be done with some modifications. Before we invest the money in the mudflaps, we want to know if some of you have done this. If you have pictures, would you please post them too?

Thanks,
Sonia

Talking Can be fixed by small "adjustment" to thickness

We "fit" the Enkay hub on our Hensley hitch by filing a portion of the hub where it was too thick to fit between the Tow Vehicle receiver and the drop tow bar of the hensley.
Others of the forum have machined the small refinement needed instead of the filing method.

I can add pictures later tonight.

Here is the picture of our adjusted Enkay hub:

I think that milling would look cleaner than our "file job". Overall, I think less that 1/8 inch on about the top 1/2 of the rear face of the hub was effected. It still makes a faily snug fit between hub and receiver. Our upcoming Unit rally will be our first use of it. We'll see how it functions.

Cutting the rubber was tougher than I thought and I also had to get a hole cutting drill to cut the hanging holes, the "punch" Enkay provide did NO CUTTING of the rubber flap at all.

Like always the job was more than I thought, but might work out ok after all.

Sonia,
I had a local machine shop mill mine out for the 6" drop on my Hensley and Enkay combination. I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them. I am more than satisfied with how they work together.

News Flash

FWI,
If you have a Hensley Hitch and are thinking about getting the Enkay Rock Tamers. I just got this note from Enkay:
"Thank you for you inquiry regarding the Rock Tamers. Our full-size Rock Tamers will fit your vehicle perfectly. As for the Hensley Hitch, we recommend you contact Sean at Hensley Hitch directly and he will take care of your hitch for you. We recently began a relationship with Hensley and they are adapting their hitches to accommodate our mudflap system. You may reach Sean from Hensley Hitch at 800-410-6580 ext. 100. Good luck with your new system."

I spoke with Sean and he will exchange your drop bar with a "special" Hensley bar that is one inch longer so you will not have to "modify" your Enkay. The exchange is free (you pay for shipping) The only down size is the "special" bar is not available for the free lifetime exchange program.
Hope this helps any one interested the Hensley/Enkay combo!!

Which leads me to beg the question... what does it mean to give up the lifetime exchange and am I better off doing the filing modification? Would appreciate feedback and photos from others. Tom, and Frank

IF you never plan on getting a tow vehicle taller or lower than what you have now then you could afford to give up the exchange program. That is a big IF! It would seem to me that it would be cheaper in the long run to have the center milled out at a cost of $20-30 or so and be able to use it on any length Hensley stinger in the future.

I don't like that IFFFF one bit and it can't be cheap to buy another Hensley shank.

Enkay Rock Tamer Modification

Sonia,
My pictures run 142-145 KB each and the limit is 100 with the program I am using. I will wait for my computer whiz son to get home so that he can reduce the size and I can post 8 pictures I took this afternoon.

PWRSTRK,
The Enkay hub had to be modified slightly deeper than the one shown on the Sunnybrooktalk forum but I can only guess it was due to the difference in truck receiver dimensions. I took the center hub, stinger and truck to a machine shop and one of the guys took measurements. I think they had to take as much as .460" off one of the areas to clear the stinger. The final result is a tight fit just allowing the pin to hold the stinger in place without fighting to get it all the way through the holes. I don't see any structural problems since there is plenty of metal.
