Duramax fuel filter
Why on GOD’s green earth did GM locate the Duramax fuel filter where they did on my 2016 GMC 2500 Denali? I just changed mine again today (2nd time since owning the truck) whew
A part that has a regular maintenance scheduled that is impossible to access without taking the truck apart is insanity.
What do you guys think about the FASS system lift pumps?
Expensive but I’ve heard good things and if it relocated the filter so it can be easily accessed...... that would be a huge improvement.

I think cutting a hole in the inner fender, or a slit you zip ty is a much better and less frustrating solution. Cut and bring it out the bottom of wheel well.

Duramax Fuel Filter
There are access doors available from the aftermarket that allow the filter to be changed without removing the fender liner. They are around $20. I installed one during the first filter change on my 2011 soon after purchase. Haven't had a problem replacing the filter since that, although I agree with you that it is a stupid place to locate a maintenance item.
I also installed Fass 150 when I added a tuner and exhaust shortly before the warranty ran out. At 145,000 miles and works great. Hopefully the added filtration of the Fass will allow the Bosch CP4 fuel pump to live a long life, certainly extra filtration cannot hurt.
If you are still under warranty the dealer may deny any claim if you add the Fass 150, as you have "modified" the fuel system.

Agreed, it is a pain. It was bad enough on my '09 where the inner fender is just plastic, but the newer ones with the fabric are even more so. I would love to install the Fass, but as my truck is new I don't want to jeopardize my warranty.

Just changed mine - was pretty painless. Pulled up, gave the keys to the service center clerk, got a coffee, did some work on my laptop, drove home an hour later

That’s my deal with the FASS system I’m sitting at 27K and do not want to mess up the warranty.

Okay to stir up the badge fight...same reason they put the DEF fill under the hood at the fire wall when Ford put it easy peasy in the fuel fill door.
Now the bowtie badge turn:
BUT!!! They get all those awards that show you all are happy with your trucks on TV that Ford doesn't....so I guess Ford loses?
Sorry, but not really to stir this pot so soon.

Diesels are expensive to run. Just like airstreams [emoji4] its a lifestyle choice. Maui is expensive too - but I don’t get to go there because all my disposable income goes to the airstream and my TV. And... it’s worth it! [emoji4]

Current generation Ford, ram, gmc 3/4 tons - they are all the same. They are all heavy pickup trucks with a cab, a bed, and big Dinosaur oil burning combustion engines - with similar performance and amenities. [emoji4]

I totally wholeheartly agree. The DEF fill at firewall is infuriating. Our ‘16 Sprinter has its fill next to radiator. Even our previous Merc was there, but oh no not the gmc Denali Duramax. The new Chevy Colorado/Canyon duramax has its def fill next to fuel fill. So why can’t they do that with full sized truck. I’ve harangued the GM truck reps at the annual car show to pass along

It would sure be nice if all the car companies put more thought into making their vehicles easier to service. It’s not just filters, what about light bulb replacement? It’s ridiculous!

You’re forgetting about the engineers in charge of sharp sheet metal edges and exposed sheet metal type screws.

Wow. One of those things I didn’t even think about with the GMC. Let me tell you, I settled for the RAM. It was about $10k cheaper for model end clearance and all the things you guys are talking about are right with the RAM setup. DEF fill next to fuel and fuel filters one is located easily accessible from engine bay and then one by the fuel tank only blocked by the drive shaft. Highly suggest the Cummings!

Given how sensitve DEF systems are to contamination, I like that the DEF fill in my Silverado is under the locked hood. No unathorized person can mess with it. YMMV.

190,000 miles on my truck with needing DEF, and not under a locked hood. Never a problem.
Although many funny conversations across the country with bow tie folks filling their DEF tank at the firewall in snow and blowing winds below freezing though....
You are happy, I am happy so we all are happy.
