Do you think I'll need an equalizer hitch?
I was headed over to one of my rental properties today to mow the lawn and with all of the folks saying that you always need an equalizer hitch I wondered if I should add one to my setup?
What do you think?
PS. I have towed various trailers for years but never used an equalizer hitch, do you think they are worth the extra $$$?

Absolutely. You might get away without one if your tractor had 10 wheels.
Seriously, though, an equalizer hitch will help hold a lightly loaded trailer down and keep it from bouncing around.
Such as an empty car trailer.
I wouldn't buy one just for that, but if you already have one...it is useful.
Love the rig, by the way.

I towed for years without weight distribution, after towing with an equalizer hitch for the first time I was sold. I'll blow lots of minds here, but towed my Argosy around 10000 miles behind a 1992 Ford Bronco on just the ball. With the very short wheelbase I had many white knuckle moments but never felt the set up was unsafe. A friend convinced me to try out a equalizer hitch and I couldn't believe the difference. I now tow with a Ford expedition and weight distribution and sway control are always on when pulling the Argosy. If my father wants to go camping we use his truck, a f350 diesel dually, and use only the ball.

You have the tow vehicles reversed. That mower will do a much better job due to its weight and its unmatched maneuverability not to mention that light weight front engine! Braking distance is also shorter than that big HD truck!
Just add a Propride Hitch to it and your good to go!

NOPE!
I TOWED THAT SAME RIG FOR YEARS USING A 4-RUNNER, AND NO PROBLEMS.
BUT IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER, GO TO YOUR TRAILER DEALER, AND PURCHASE A GOOD 'EQUALIZER' WEIGHT DIST. HITCH.
THEY WILL LOVE YOU FOR IT. (IF THEY CAN KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE.)

Nose looks high on the mower, better get W/D and sway control right away.

Go with a full Hensley design setup. Can't afford any sway with this rig....

I am afraid that the WD hitch might bend the tongue of the trailer, should I get the tongue of the trailer upgraded to handle the hitch?

You can't be too careful, so I think you need the most expensive hitch possible.
Why just the other day I saw an overturned trailer on the highway.
...and what kind of tires are on that trailer?

Wow. Was that the small Bronco or the larger truck based bronco? Either way I cannot imagine the pucker factor you probably experienced.

It's a fullsize. Sway was never an issue with it, hard braking on the other hand could get interesting.
