Chevy 2015 Duramax brake controller

Yesterday I towed my 2008 27' FB Classic to the Chevy dealer to see how my trailer would work with a Duramax. Try as we might, we were unable to get the brake controller on the 2015 Duramax to shake hands with the trailer brakes. Anyone have any ideas on how to make electric over hydraulic disk brakes work with a GM pickup? The brakes work just fine with my F-150.

Install a trailer brake magnet parallel to the brake controller.

Starting in 2015 GM ITBC are supposed to support EOH.

Is your actuator the Actibrake? I had a Dexter installed in my 2008 Classic. It was only recently I notice a trailer magnet was wired into my brake electrical line in the actuator compartment.

On my new Ram I first set it up as EOH but the brakes didn't work. Then I tried electric and the trailer brakes started to work. I haven't tried disconnecting the magnet and changing the IBTC to EOH to see if that works.

Interesting. My 2015 duramax did just fine with my 2015 25' Flying Cloud last week. Did you actuate the brake controller and put it in tow mode? Also, you may need to turn the boost up. I have mine at 3.5 and seems perfect.

On my 2015 2500 HD pulling a 2015 30' Bunk I can go full gain and still not lock up the trailer brakes at 20 MPH per the instructions in the manual. Wondering where to start?

If brakes work with the "breakaway" switch the trailer brakes are likely "ok". Adding the "brake magnet" gives the TV Breake Controller a "load" to sense electrically, the. You can dial in the braking.

Duramax brake controller

This has been an interesting quest. I have received at least 8 different ideas on how to make the brakes work, three from Airstream dealers, three from trailer repair and service shops and two over internet. The most recent from etrailer. com suggesting my best option is to install an after market brake actuator like the Prodigy P2. I can certainly do that, but I guess my real puzzle is why would GM produce a truck that is specifically designed to tow and not install the technology necessary to work with different brake configurations? Ford obviously figured it was the right thing to do for the consumer as my F-150 works just fine. Seems odd I should have to spend upwards to 50 grand on a truck and another $200 to make the brakes work.

I would be looking for another problem. 2014 1500s and 2015 HDs are compatible with E over H. I have used several with no problems, as others say above.

It could be GM only tested with current models of EOH actuators. Actibrake went out of business several years ago. Too bad they don't list the compatible controllers.

I am still using the Actibrake. No problem with current generation trucks

This is exactly what we had to do on a recent purchase of an ’08 34’ Classic. The 2015 GMC 2500HD brake controller would not work with the trailers brakes without the brake magnet. We wired & installed it in the actuator box.

Made it back to Texas from Rhode Island without any problems.

My first thought, the new truck has a wiring issue to the 7 pin connector. My 2015 Duramax sense's the connection immediately upon connection to my 2014 FB27. I boost the gain to 4.5/5.0.

2014FB I asked the same question at the AS factory on my 2015 Classic. They said it's likely they will not lockup. To much mass/weight. I could lock my 2014 FC 25 but it was several thousand pounds less weight. So set it to a gain of 10 and drive on.

If I were you I would keep towing with the F-150.

Well, if you go the route of an aftermarket controller, the Tekonsha P-2 is NOT the answer for disc brakes (electric over hydraulic). You'd have to go with the P-3 which is what we have used with no issues for our disc brakes. But, reading some of the other posts which are made by those with setups similar to yours, their suggestions may be more relevant to solving your exact setup issues.

Good luck

Airstream Service recommends and installs DirectLink controllers. They are connected to the TV OBD-II system . Mine works great with the EOH set up. In fact, with the Banks Speed Brake, I have to keep an eye on the rear view camera for tailgaters. Remember the old saying, "stops on a dime and gives you nine cents change." You just can't beat 5 axle disc brakes and "grade braking" for stopping a rig.

We have many 2007-2011 Duramax/Allison trucks with integrated trailer brake controllers and cargo trailers. The integrated trailer brake controllers work fine. Usually the gain is adjusted to 6 or 6.5.
We only have one 2015 with integrated trailer brake controller, and so far it works fine with a horse trailer.

When we converted the 2014 Classic to Kodiak 12" disc brakes, the distributor of the Titan RiteBrake II SD never mentioned that it was incompatible with ALL factory installed trailer brake controllers. I found out that tidbit of information driving home through the mountains in the dark. It was challenging.....

So we started the research into a third party trailer brake controller along with researching how to bypass the factory controller without throwing error codes in the 2012 Dodge Ram 2500HD Cummins. We settled on the Tuson OBD plug DireLink NE trailer brake controller and found the bypass information for the truck wiring.

This combination has worked well.

When the BrakeRite II gives up, we will probably convert to the Tuson Actulink ABS brake controller and replumb the brakes lines and replace the existing disc brakes for ABS models. That is the ultimate safe brake system for the our Classic that weighs around 9,300 pounds camping ready.
