Buying The Tekonsha® P3 What else do I need for complete package?

I am buying The Tekonsha® P3 What else do I need for complete package? My new to me (Suburban 1999 2500 4wd 7.4L)does not have a brake controler. So I will need to buy the complete setup. I don't have a clue as to just what I would need to complete the unit. Below is the web site if someone would list the items I should order I would be most appreicative.

Do I also need a brake away switch? Or does it come with the P3?

You will need the correct plug in harness for you TV, if you have the factory tow package.

1999 to 2002 GM Trucks and SUVs the harness needed is the 3025

The break away switch should be installed on the hitch of the trailer and is independent of your TV.

I just bought a "new" 1976 31ft Sovereign and a new 2007 Ford with the towing package. You didn't say if your Suburban has the towing package; however, I was as confused as you when I looked at what I needed for my set up. You could call the help line at the company you listed or you might try Southwest Wheel Company where I bought mine. They have free shipping and their site listed free wiring harnesses with your purchase. I got the plug-in wiring for my Ford which will make it very easy to install this controller. If your Suburban is equipped with the tow package, Southwest may have just what you need and it's free with the controller. Also the brake away switch is part of the trailer and may be on it already. It should be mounted on the tongue and be a flat black small rectangular piece. There are certainly people on the Forum smarter about towing set ups than I am, but I thought you would like the "lost soul" view point.

I bought a P3 recently. It is a very good unit. Stick with PPL, even with the $10 pigtail and shipping it's cheaper than the other vendor.

The unit needs to be mounted level from side to side, and parallel to the vehicle centerline. I mounted mine just above my right knee so that I can reach the manual activation switch.

If your Subn has a 7-way plug under the back bumper, then it has the factory tow package, or someone has added it. The critical thing is a wire that connects the brake controller to the brakes in the Airstream. You don't need to run a wire for the brakes as it is all prewired to the panel under the dashboard that the pigtail plugs into.

The Breakaway switch is a separate item. You only need it when the trailer has disconnected from the tow vehicle, and by then the controller in the cab isn't gonna do you any good.

Yes the brake away switch is present on the trailer. I have just placed the order with Southwest Wheel Company. It turns out to be cheaper than the other supplier with free shipping and wire harness. Thank you so much for your help as always you guys and girls are the best.
