Bike Rack on A-Frame

After a long and extensive search for a bike rack that would meet our needs, we settled on a hitch receiver + bike rack setup on the A-Frame of our Airstream.

In our case, we wanted something that would just bolt on, which meant our options were limited to some installed on the A-Frame.

We used the Stromberg Carlson (CC-275) Bike Bunk

In combination with the Pro-Series 63123 Eclipse Black 3-Bike Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004R35MQI

We had to reverse the direction of the bike mounting arm so that to bikes would be mounted toward the AS and not the Tow Vehicle (otherwise bikes would have touched the Tow Vehicle). Otherwise, no mods we necessary.

Also ended up getting CURT 22321 Anti-Rattle Kit because the bike rack was wobbly without it.

Great thing about this setup is that I can still open the front window guard and I can still access the generator mounted underneath.

Wanted to share the setup for others looking for a similar solution.

Could you tell me if this set-up continues to work for you? We need to find a rack system for 4 bikes, not easy to fine.
Thanks

We do not use this method of storing our bikes anymore. They were just too difficult to get on and off, which meant we hardly used them (sad). We ended up getting a roof-mounted bike rack for our car instead.

Bike Rack on A Frame - Option B

Thanks trekerboy,
Your comment was exactly what we feared.... difficulty getting on and off. We have a F250 and and any system will be difficult but it looks like a rack on the back of the truck is our only option.
Safe travels, and thanks for your timely response.

Actually this Yakima roof rack setup over the truck bed works very well. Bikes are secure and easily removed with the aid of a folding step from the side or from the bed. Add a seat cover and handle bar covers to keep the rain and bugs off.

On our last travel trailer (not and AS) I had the bike rack on the front frame. I used the tailgate to get the bikes on an off. It made the process much more straight forward and manageable. It is nice to be able to easily see what is going on with the bikes.

On our Airstream I went with the Fiamma and purchased a lighter bike to stay under the weight limits. I just installed it a few months ago and have not used it yet.

Thanks Mojo, this is where we are heading, glad to know the Yakama system is working for you. Nice looking set-up. BTW, Love Santa Fe, we are looking forward to camping out at Taos next winter... I hear you can camp out for up to 7 days in the parking lot!
