Better to wire lift jack to TV or trailer?
I'm completely restoring my AS and am wondering if I should wire the motorized trailer hitch jack to the electrical system in the trailer or to the plug in the tow vehicle. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Just wire it to the feed wire that goes from the umbilical plug to the junction in the trailer. Do you really want to have to go hook up the tow vehicle to the trailer just to raise or lower the tongue an inch or two?

I thought they all had a wire that went directly to the battery box with an in-line fuse holder. That's how mine is set up.

I have done it both ways. Prefer having the trailer jack wired to the trailer battery. Figured it out about the third time I needed to raise or lower the trailer to get the lawnmower under it...
However on my work trailers it is wired to the tow vehicle side, because they typically don't have a large battery on them, just the small one for the breakaway switch.

To the trailer. What if you have to use a different truck?

If you wire the jack to your trailer battery, you have an extra option: If the trailer battery is dead for whatever reason, you can connect your trailer's umbilical your TV. Then, with your TV running you'll have plenty of power to raise/lower the jack.
Don't ask how I know this.

The jack is fused for 30 amps. The wiring in the truck would not support that load alone. Yes in an emergence but why run the risk of burning up the TV wiring.

Mine too. When the battery was dead the TV could be used to run the jack Also if the battery is out of the trailer (as in winter) you can use the TV to run the jack
My TV is fused 30 Amp right on the battery post with 8 gauge wire to the umbilical plug. Only time I blew the fuse was when the jack motor limit switch failed.

Which would you rather? Better brakes, better hitch, or better wheels/tires?
