Bed Slides

I'm short and even with the steps getting in and out of the F-150 bed isn't easy. Loading and unloading the generator is really a pain in the neck when I'm alone which is most of the time.

Any recommendations on a bed slide? Prices seem to be all over the place. I want something mid-range but hefty enough to carry the generator on.

Thanks in advance for any insight. Paula

I had one installed for work and it was amazingly useful and I was asked about it all the time. It was a medium duty version but was still rated for way more than my truck! I had a 3/4" ply tray that I carpeted on it which stopped stuff sliding about too. The snag for me was that with my generator on it it was a couple of inches too tall for my tonneau cover to close. I'm pretty sure I paid about $1350 for it at the time.

Bed Slide

I am planning on getting a bed slide for my new F250 next month. I plan to keep four bikes, a generator, and other miscellaneous camping items in it. I have a cap (not a tonneau cover) so everything should fit just fine. I am currently thinking of getting the "lightweight" version which is rated at 1,000 lbs (plenty for a 45 lbs generator, 110 +/- lbs of bikes and other stuff. I was quoted about $1,000 installed. I didn't see the need to get a unit with more capacity since I could not conceive of ever carrying more than 1,000 lbs. Seems like a no-brainer to me, especially with the bikes.

Paula,
As an "old guy" I'm interested in what you learn. I've priced them, too, and hesitated because of the investment. Probably should just go ahead and bite the bullet. <grin>

I thought I wanted one but I have the same problem as a previous poster. The generator is too tall for the fiberglass bed cover if I put in the roller. And as you know the generator does not slide on the bed making it difficult to move. If you have a high cover on the truck I expect you will like the roller.

Hi Paula,
As you know there are quite a few manufacturers and types of drawer slides, Accuride, Hafele, Sugatsune, bottom mount, side mount, ETC.
When I had my trailer at AREA63, Uwe, suggested we use heavy duty 500 lb rated Accuride full extension slides for our bed and accuride full extension/self closing for the drawers.
The Accuride slides we use are fantastic. Check out there web site.
I suggest you call Uwe and pose your question to him, he is very helpful. They have moved to Lytle Creek, CA. there new number is 909 355 3558.
Hope this helps.

Dennis
