I'm new to pulling travel trailers; my experience has been with a small popup behind my 1/2 Dodge pickup. So -- first thing I did was buy a 2001 3/4 ton Ford diesel, crew cab and long bed. I'd been thinking I'd buy a 30' Airstream or Avion TT and felt comfortable that the truck could handle it. Now I've got me eye on a lovely 34' Excella...

It appears that the trailer at at little under 10,000 lbs GVW is within my truck's capacities. And I'd buy a Hensley Arrow to hook it up. But I'd like to hear from those with experience with a similar trailer. Whaddya think?

Difference between a 1 ton Super duty and the 3/4 ton super duty is spring rates. THey have the same engine, tranny, rear axle.

Ford Super Duty's are rated 25k max GVWR. If it was rated over that you would need a CDL.

It will handle the trailer. My buddy just pulled a 39ft car trailer with 3 jeeps out to Moab. Truck had no problem doing it.

See my signature. I pull our 34 Limited just fine with the '02 PSD Superduty. The Hensley hitch is great!

Sometime in late model year '01, the F250, with camper package, and single-rear wheel F350 became the same truck... all the same components. In early '01, the main difference was a slight difference in the rear springs. The late production '01 models that were upgraded have the '02's big bore fuel filler and can take the high-volume diesel pump nozzles. They also came with Gold coolant vs the green that had to have additive added every so often.

The GCWR of the F250-F350 is 20,000 lbs. The F450-550 are higher because you can get 4.56:1 gearing with them, not to mention their stronger chassis and brakes.

With the factory towing package, your hitch receiver should be rated 1250/12,500 lbs. Look for a sticker on it.
