What I find interesting on this thread is that it was started by trying to blame the vehicle rather than tread design of the tires on rock tossing:
"We just returned from a 6000 mile Trip and for all you guys wanting a Ford F-250 SuperDuty let me warn ya they are one NASTY stone throwing Airstream denting machine."
Regardless of the origin, I have Rock Tamers and have found them to help a lot.
Oh, and run the rock tossing tires to wear bars and they don't throw them anymore!!!

Bought our Rock Tamers from Amazon. And the “Airstream” name plates from the Airstream store. I emailed the Airstream store before purchasing, as I noticed that the website photos show BOTH name plates. And I was told that the Rock Tamers from the Airstream store come only with the Rock Tamers name plates - I would have to buy the Airstream name plates separately.

I have full size duraflap mud flaps on my truck and they protect my trailer great. No rock chips no mud and my truck looks great as well.
I just got tired of dealing with the hitch guard.

Rock Tamers

When we bought our "SS Serenity", I looked at the roads in Idaho during summer and immediately knew I'd need Rock Tamers. They chip seal a lot of roads here each year. They are well worth the money.

Rock tamers can absolutely save your investment. Anyone who purchases a used Airstream that has been to Alaska will be able to tell if the PO had used them.

I have a 250 GMC 6.5 ft bed and am concerned about the exhaust melting the rock tamers. Is there a trick to avoiding this problem?

I used rock tamers from day one but would like to replace the heavy flaps by something like the ecoflap if it was possible.https://www.ecoflaps.com/

Thanks Aluminaut. It is worth a try a definitely cheaper than modifying the exhaust pipe.

F-250 Rock Tamer Question

Question for those Ford F-250 Owners who have installed Rock Tamers

Have any of you that have installed the Rock Tamers on a 2016-19 Ford F-250. Did you have to trim the mud flaps or does the Truck sit high enough that they don’t drag when the Airstream is hitched on with the Weigh distribution bars.

I just received my set but I did not want to have to drive to the storage unit them hitch up the trailer as per the instructions to measure the distance from the ground to the flap bars so as to trim the flaps if not necessary.

They are higher !

The hide height of the F-250 is much higher than our F-150 or previous 2500. Both previous vehicles had weather tech mud flaps and we had no stone damage. Tire design the same- It was my fault for not judging the weather tech mudflaps that did not hang low enough to cover the stone thrower’s tires. But the truck sits high. Love the truck but it ruined a nice trailer in one trip. I walked around Jackson Center and saw many Ford Super Duty's and Rams with Rock Tamers.

Unfortunately yes they probably need a hair cut which is a good thing as they give you material to do a nice installation. And the best way to do that is to measure things when loaded. I had to do that for mine. (the same basic truck as yours, maybe an inch closer to the ground).
Or if fate and the situation your in prohibits the ahead of time installation....run your trailer to your next site and have some wrenches, a Stanley knife, old piece of 2x4 to cut on and measure and install there. If I remember correctly it was an hour and two beer job.

And from my experience, it is not the truck that throws the rocks, but the tread of the tires. So height of the truck certainly determines where the rocks hit. It would appear from your mention of changing trucks that in your early trucks if running the same tread you are now you were sandblasting your truck, now with a taller truck it moved to the trailer so it is noticed there. Not saying you are wrong, but blaming a truck for throwing rocks is what I did not understand and took issue with on your initial post.

Your statement about not realizing mud flap coverage, truck height, etc. I totally agree with so I now think we are both saying the same thing with different words.
So to move this thread forward in the right direction please read my first two paragraphs about my install experience and ignore the rest as we are on the same page, I think.
