7-Way Connector Queston

Go to the EZConnector website at www.EZConnector,com and look for the two adapters from 7-pin plug to EZConnector and the adapter for 7-pin socket to EZConnector. This is what I’m using. One of each type adapter. Not a wiring harness or new umbilical (yet).

The one adapter plugs more or less permanently into the receptacle on the vehicle, and the other one gets more or less permanently connected to the end of the trailer umbilical.

This gets you an EZConnector on both sides that will mate up easily without the pain of rewiring the TV and the AS. It also lets you pull the adapter off and use it on another tow vehicle or trailer easily.

I’m on my cell phone, and it’s not letting me cut and paste anything today....sorry. All else fails, send me a PM and I’ll try to respond from my computer later today or tonight with exact part number links.

Here are my old and new plugs, at first I bought the plug attached to the cable, but it was going to be very involved switch the whole cable, so now I am going to just splice in the plug. I hope this is helpful to someone MikeClick image for larger version

Just to confirm - are these correct?

Yup. Those are exactly what I use. The reason I like them is no modification to the tow vehicle, but I can clean the original 7-way connector contacts, Jam the adapter in tight very easily, and the adapters give me just a little more length to my umbilical that I need because of my ProPride hitch system.
The one for the umbilical also fits on solid. A thin film of dielectric grease on the thoroughly clean 7-pin contacts on both ends (never on the EZConnector pins) will keep any stray moisture out.

You will enjoy hooking up with this system—no bending and jamming stuff together, just aim, align, and they jump in place and make solid contact. At worse I wipe the rain or dust off the contacts with a paper towel or clean cloth before I hook up.

Ford F250 7-way Plug Problems

I had a similar problem with my 2018 F250. The 7-way plug would come loose and disconnect giving me a warning on the dash. In practice the 7-way connector on the F-250 is upside down allowing the weight of the cord to loosen the connection because the tab is a the bottom of the F-250's connector. When I complained to the Ford dealer, they said there was a service bulletin on this problem and replaced the plug under warranty. After replacing the plug on the truck everything works fine now.

So you pull your door down? Not up is that what you are saying, I ended up NOT changing my plug out I didn't want to cut my cord, so I took a screwdriver and made the Gap wider, in each hole now the plug will go all the way in Mike

Does your dealer's repair order for that repair reference the TSB (service bulletin) number that the repair was done to satisfy? Knowing that would be helpful in dealing with a dealer that isn't familiar with the repair. Thanks!

7 Way Connection Question

Similar trailer disconnect signal on the dash of my 2015 F-150. I took it to an A.S. dealer to check the brakes, magnets, and wire connections, etc. and no replacements needed on the 2016 20ft F.C.

The service bulletin from Ford would be very helpful.

Thanks, Skip

Following this thread, here’s a couple of pics on my 2019 Ford F-250. Should it open up or should it pull down?

I don’t know that there’s a single right or wrong way. My Chevy opens up so the notch on the cover comes down behind the high point of the connecter. I still wrap the whole thing with a strip of Velcro (like a long cable tie) just to be extra safe. Would recommend that to anyone no matter how it’s configured.

Ford TSB for 7-way plug

The Ford Service bulletin on the 7-way plug is TSB 18-2106. I’ve had no problems since the repair last August. Others were questioning the “right” direction for the plug. When the lock notch is at the top, the weight of the cord pulls against the lock keeping the plug tight (as on my 2015 Tundra). When the notch is at the bottom the weight of the cord pulls down and rotates around the notch pulling the plug out of the connector. I’ve seen a number of good fixes mentioned, but they are fixes. Being an engineer I like to see things designed right the first time considering actual use.

The Ford service bulletin TSB 18-2106 says it's to address "Trailer Connected And/Or Disconnected Message In The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Without A Trailer Connected".

Not sure that's what we are complaining about, as we're having problems with the trailer connected, not without a trailer connected.

In any event I've printed out the TSB in case my replacement of the Airstream's 7 pin connector with the better quality one does not turn out to be a permanent fix.

Baby Zeppelin to clarify, my complaint to my Ford Dealer was I was getting a Trailer Disconnected message that would the give me a Trailer Connected message shortly after. They fixed the problem by replacing the 7-way connector. I did not ask them to respond to a TSB I asked the to fix a problem similar to the OP’s problem.

Cool Seven pin connector from TV to AS

Just wondering if I need to keep the connector plugged in when boondoggling overnight? Thanks

No. That would not be necessary under normal circumstances.

I always unplug even if overnight. If you left a lot of items on etc you could draw power back from your tow vehicle and run its battery down. Dave

can anyone tell me how much work replacing the cord on the trailer side was? I am not sure where the connections are made under the airstream.

TIA

The easiest way to do it is with a 7 Way Connection Box. You can find them on Amazon or etailer.com.
