'65 Airstreams, Stabilizer

Looking at two different '65 Airstreams; a 26' and 28'. Wanting to get a stabilizer bar/hitch for smooth towing. The Airstreams are around 4,000 lbs. I'll be pulling which ever one I buy with a 2013 Yukon Denali XL (8,100 lbs towing capacity.). I'd prefer not to spend $2500 on a top of the line set up. What suggestions do you have? Any sub $500 or $250 options that I won't regret?

I think they both would have a 2" ball. What would be the dimensions of the frame? Saw one option that required I provide the dimensions of the frame I'd be attaching it to.

Thanks for your help.

Have a look at Equal-Iizer or Dual Cam setups. With that heavy a truck they would probably work ok. I tow with a 1/2 ton Toyota Tacoma, and I need to add a lot of hitch stability to pull it off. A-B testing on the same rout convinced me of that..

Or, alternatively, look for a USED Hensley Manufacturing or ProPride hitch system at a much lower cost. Rebuilding one to like-new condition is not that hard...

Thanks for the suggestions. Ebay or Craigslist if looking for a used Hensley or ProPride?

Anyplace you can find one, also check AS classified part of this forum. Don’t skimp on a hitch.

Two trips with a not-so-good hitch system, I decided a serious upgrade was necessary for my family’s safety. I could afford a better hitch. The better truck was out of reach, unfortunately.

welcome to the formuns, yes both of those models use a 2'' ball. i have used a reese.an equalize and an e-z lift. all worked well. many report good results with the blue oz. the hensly and PP hitchs are good, but for those of us who boondock, they are not to good; we loose to much ground-clearance. if you will stay on paved roads or good gravel roads the hensly/PP can't be beat if you can afford them. kurt

My Equalizer has served me well for 9 years. I chose it over the Reese for several reasons after lots of researching the topic back in the day. Sorry I don't remember the specifics now. Good product and good service if you have questions on the install and set up. The company has lots of videos on Youtube about the hitch and how to set it up.
