we cruised 55-60 the whole way home....14.1 mpg per the display....almost no wind, little bit of drizzle rain here and there...pretty flat terrain, some rolling hills (between gulfport, MS, and birmingham, AL)....at 60mph I felt in total control, comfortable, and very stable.

I went 50-55 for about 20 minutes behind a wide load truck...big rigs were passing in the left lane of this 2 way highway, but I just opted to not get near it until the 3rd lane opened up.

Yes, I have found that 55-62 there abouts is quite comfortable.

No, not "supposed" or required. We do it to increase fuel economy and reaction time/accident avoidance...and to slow down enjoy the scenery.
I can see/perceive more of my surroundings at a slower speed. I can see everyone else's rig as they pas...

Next time I'm in the Seattle area with the trailer, I'll make a point of looking you up, so you kind see what 65 MPH feels like from the passenger seat when towing a 31 foot 10,000# Airstream at 65 MPH on I-5. A 19 foot trailer is sort of like a large luggage rack.

I started to feel much less safe at and above 65 mph...not out of controll...wobbly....etc...but just that I was beggining to approach more vehicles, it would mean more often I would need to pass...it would mean that I would be closer to vehicles - at 60mph I was able to keep a very safe distance, and if folks needed to pass me they could and not linger next to me going 0.25 mph faster than me or me going 0.25 mph faster than the person ahead of me....

Truckers on 20/59 tend to go 65-72 for example...mixing it up with them more often is annoying for me...

I went 65 for a little bit around tuscaloosa when traffic picked up and I felt like I would be holding up things....but people are often still going 80mph on that stretch and passing folks at 70mph like gangbusters...

I am new at this, but 60mph for me for now felt like the best compromise and comfort for me at this point.

Driving from my storage place to my house down a long grade I got up to about 78 mph for a moment, coasting. I didn't like it. Felt like if something went wrong the trailer would be in control. Normally I drive about 55 to 60 miles per hour. At that speed I get about 10 miles per gallon. It's usually easy to find a truck going that fast.

I have tried from 55 to 70 and for my truck about 58-59 mph at about 2100 rpm is the sweet spot. Very seldom do I get in heavy traffic as everyone passes me....well from SW Florida to N Texas I did pass two vehicles

I try to stay around 62 mph on the interstates as it give me the best milage. I am also concerned at going faster then that because as I grow younger my reflexes are not as quick as they use to be. good

55 - 65 east of the Mississippi. 65 - 75 west of the Mississippi. Generally.

Safety depends on traffic, wind, road conditions and quality of towing setup as well as good driving habits.
