2019 Silverado Announcement

http://www.chevynews.net/2019silverado/

In case you all didn't see it. Still not a lot of spec details, but diesel 1500 is an I6 3.0Liter diesel. Hit the press release tab at the bottom for a bit more info.

Looks like a nice truck. Removing 450 pounds of weight is a major accomplishment as that leads to more payload and increased efficiency. Too bad it will not be available till the last quarter of this calendar year.

Also curious about the specs relative to towing and payload of the new diesel, as well as the other drive train options.

I anxiously await specs...whether the 450 lbs reduction translates to increased payload...or if the new suspension doesn't accommodate it.

6.2L and 5.3L gas is new with cylinder deactivation in up to 7 cylinders?!?!?!?

No mention of the 4.3L, but I gotta believe it stays for the work truck variant?

10 speed for the 6.2 and diesel.

In 2019 Dodge is coming out with a really beefy 1/2 ton. Suppose to pull 12750lbs and have 2300lbs of payload. It will be V8 gas. Sounds pretty interesting. I won’t be ready for a new truck by then, but it seems there is real competition to get those 1/2 ton pickups up to the 3/4 ton specs. My guess is that in a few years the 3/4 ton will be essentially a 1 ton as they make the 1/2 tons more like the 3/4 tons. Big towing competition going on.

I saw an interview on You Tube where a RAM engineer was asked why they did not try to beat the F-150 in towing (I think the F-150 is slightly over 13k lbs) capacity. The answer was that beyond this number a HD truck is preferred by almost everyone and the juice was not worth the squeeze to get over 13k lbs. I guess that makes sense!

Is this an all brand new engine from GM or re engineered from old stock?

Not sure if it has been used overseas or is all new. I have received little detail at this point.

Will be following for more updates. Probably more interest in the 6.2. Hopefully they will not mess with the payload.
Going to be a great line of trucks.

Why not a 3/4 ton Chevy with the duramax.....then you have enough to do something...my 17 Ram with the 6.7 has plenty, 20 empty 13-14 with the 31’ Classic , I wouldn’t even consider a 1/2 engine...

Reported in the press to be an all new 3.0 diesel, designed at the GM Diesel Centre of Excellence in Turin, Italy.

The Duramax and the large gas engine have the same power output.

The 1/2 ton is using a 3 liter engine.....1/2 the size of the 3/4 ton engine...why would you want 1/2 of an engine? There is no such thing as too much horsepower or too much money....

The new 3.0L Diesels

It appears Ford and Ram have new 3.0L diesels coming out as well. Most likely all in line 6's. Have not seen the numbers for the Duramax, Ford 250 HP & 440 Torque, RAM 240 HP & 420 Torque. It will be interesting to see the stroke and bore #'s on these new engines. The MPG not towing I would bet hit the 30MPG HWY. For people wanting light duty trucks this is pretty exciting I would think.

Best regards and safe travels...........

The Ford 3.0 diesel is based on a former Ford engine, the Lion 3.0 diesel currently used by Landrover. It has been updated with a new crank, etc, but is similar. It is a 60 degree V6, not an inline 6.

The RAM diesel is not new AFAIK, it is still the VM 3.0 diesel, another V6, but press accounts are that it won't be called an Ecodiesel any longer.

I do like the idea of an inline 6, for serviceability and balance, but it is surprising that they went that way with the GM engine given packaging constraints.

That Chevy 6.2 has 80 more horsepower than the Cummins. But the Duramax, Powerstroke and 6.2 Chevy are almost equal in power.
