2017 Ford Expedition towing intl serenity 30'

We are upgrading from a international service 23 D to a 30' international ser. Our tow vehicle is a 2017 Ford Expedition with tow package, 1000 lbs tow hitch, bars and sway control. Tow weight is rated as 9200. Trailer weight is 8800.

Are there people on the forum that tow with an expedition as well? Any serious objection to this combo?

Looking toward to any comments

What is the payload rating of your Expedition?

Your tongue weight will be around 950lbs. I don’t know your payload, but it should be close to 1900lbs if you put things in the back. You will probably be able to do it, but not with much margin. Could be a struggle on hills. You can only try and see what happens. That will be the test. What is the rear end ratio? Torque? Horse power?

My F150 pulls the 28’ pretty easily. But it has 11,900lbs tow rating. 1200lb hitch. It has 1879lbs payload. But that is with an aluminum body.

I hope it works for you. That 30’ International is a nice AS.

Adjust the hitch properly and you should be fine. Payload is going to be an issue though. Are you planning on pulling it fully weighed down with water and all? Dry our Int'l Ser weighs 6700lbs.

FYI, this is not a properly adjusted WD hitch. [emoji28]

I towed a 27FB international serenity for four years with a 2003 Ford Expedition. I made sure the hitch was adjusted properly and confirmed with CAT Scale. It towed the trailer just fine. Your 14 year newer model Expedition is much more capable, especially with benefit of the 3.5 ecoboost engine over my old much weaker 5.4 liter V8.

I agree on the WD adjustment. You need to level that out a bit. Nose of that AS is pointing down. I would get a level. Stick it in the AS, and then adjust that hitch a bit. That steering is going to be sloppy in the front. Not enough weight on the front tires. The reason I know?

When we picked up our AS the dealership didn't adjust it correctly. When I got home 2 things I did:
1) I raised the hitch point up on rung. (I have a BLUE OX).
2) I added 2 more links to the chain on the BLUE OX.

It leveled the truck out and the AS out very nicely. Made a world of difference.
