The turbo engine is simply more efficient, and the extra transmission gears will also help. So if you drive the Ecoboost like you drive your 5.4 (ie same rate of acceleration) it should do better. If you constantly take advantage of the greater hp, bets are off.

The new ones supposedly get a bit better mileage and I wonder if their computer is more accurate?
Sidethought---- BTW, I have a question to ask. I just got offered money for my vehicle when at the dealer and am considering a newer F150, from my Lariat to a Platinum BUT, the cash difference is $20K. I would be gaining the new feature set since 2015 and a three-year newer vehicle but I am a bit reluctant. Primarily because of just retiring and not having a major stash of cash. I can do it but is the better MPG, features and trim upgrade worth it? Thoughts from those who are retired or retiring?

Retirements a ways off yet, but "how" to do this is what I grew up with as a third generation owner.

The "best" TV on that score, IMO, is the one that's paid for. Wrote a check for mine ten years ago (used plus a trade), put 100k more on it and repairs have been $500. Figured I might move on from it, but more substantial repairs/system replacements look better than another one.

I'd have to do the math, but $20,000 will buy a lot of fuel. I would think that unless you are really racking up a lot of miles, or the difference in mpg is so great, that the payoff for a $20,000 investment would be a very long time. I've thought about going from the Tundra I drive to a diesel, but the $$ just don't add up. I don't drive it enough.

Note that the payload on the Platinum may be less than what you already have.

For us? It is definitely worth it. We have worked and saved all of our lives and the luxury features in the platinum or king ranch enhance our enjoyment of long distance travel.

FYI - There is a service bulletin out on select 2015 Ecoboost trucks made between certain dates for steering correction. The electronic power steering can create excessive wandering and pulling to the right. I test drove a fantastic low miles 2015 lariat that to me was almost undriveable and would have never worked as a tow vehicle due to the excessive wandering condition. I discovered the Service Bulletin, the dealer reprogrammed the steering with assistance from Ford tech folks and then they sold it to someone else...

Well, I will let you know in the computer MPG. I got the new truck! Needless to say it is a chunk of change but they threw in the extended warranty too so, it is mine for 5 years at least. Thanks for the replies on the off topic from MPG computer to truck trade. I lost just over 100# payload but I gained a 36 gallon tank. The difference of just the extra fuel is 82# plus whatever the larger tank weighs so I bet that is the main difference.

Go get a TARE weight. Fill up max fuel at the truckstop and weigh truck with driver only plus gear constantly aboard.

What are the axle (tire/wheel) ratings?

How much "capacity" on either axle? (Against limits)

How much versus GVWR?

From TARE, what is FF/RR weight bias? 56% FF?

Next is with rig, loaded (or simulated) for a camping trip (sans trailer). Now, what is bias, axle and total?

The first scale ticket is reference for solo TV tire pressure.

The second is baseline for what WD will add.

(I know you know this. But first TARE is more informative than one might think a few years down road. Tire wear, etc).
