Thanks for the numbers. Very useful. May I ask what is the model of your Tundra? SR5, Limited, Platinum, etc?

Looking at the axle weight ratings and your actual hitched weight you think there would be more payload than 1320lbs shown on the door sticker. I guess the engineers have to take into consideration all aspects of the vehicle; brakes, suspensions, steering, etc and set GVWR to a safe value.

Is yours 2WD? 4WD usually eats up ~ 200# of payload.

I have the same setup, only 2012 models in both truck and trailer. My door sticker shows 1320 lbs as well.

But is your hitch distributing any weight? When you add the trailer, the rear axle weight goes up by 1000 lbs. That seems like the full tongue weight of the trailer. Am I missing something?

So what are the first two weights? GCWR and TWR? Were you 1,190 lbs over weight?

I have the same setup but with a 2014 Toyota Tundra Crew Max and a 2006-25' Safari SS. Thanks for the info; very, very helpful. Also, my model is the 1794 Limited Edition. After re-looking over your numbers, wouldn't the Airstream Payload be 1260# (7200 - 5940) instead of 1360#?? Larry

Sounds like a good setup. He is restoring all but 40 lbs to the front axle. That seems pretty good on a truck to me. The truck is carrying 920 lbs from the trailer. That seems about right to me. My older, lighter 25' transfers about 800 to the truck.

If I follow your numbers correctly, you added 820 lbs payload to your truck by hooking up the trailer, which is about 14% of the trailers net weight. That leaves you 500 lbs of useable payload for passengers and stuff in the truck.

Assuming you loaded the Airstream up to it's max weight by putting 1360 lbs in it, and that 14% of that is transferred to the truck, that would add another 185 lbs to the payload in the truck. Does't that only leave you about 315 lbs for passengers? Or are you going to limit the maximum weight the trailer to 5940 lbs?

No I am not overweight.

These are the Gross Combined Weight Rating and Tow Weight Rating. These are the max ratings for this truck.

Not sure why looking at these numbers is so fascinating, but they’re fun to peruse. Makes me want to take my setup back to the scales too!

But am I seeing a red flag?

Tongue weight is 820
But TV rear axle gains 960
Front axle loses 140

Isn’t the function of weight distribution hitch to shift weight from the rear axle to the front axle of your TV? These numbers suggest the opposite.

Scale weights have been very useful in learning the actual capabilities of our trucks. Many years of towing with our two Ram 1500's and an earlier Tundra have taught us to load our truck to GVWR when hauling loads in the bed, more and it becomes light in front, less stable and reduced braking.

When we tow our Airstream we can use the truck's front and rear axle ratings (GAWR) to load the truck, and our weight distribution hitch to distribute the load evenly on it's axles and some to the trailer's axles. Within the truck's GCWR (truck and trailer loaded to travel), it handles beautifully, smooth riding and excellent braking. Rock solid stability.

I can understand the emphasis on the GCWR, but I thought that the GVWR should be respected as well while towing. Maybe I am misinformed. Maybe I shouldn't worry so much. I just want to be sure that when I finally purchase my Airstream and tow vehicle that they will be compatible.
