I am always amazed at the naysayers when TV's come up. I have a 2012 Chevy 5.3 with the towing package and a ProPride; it tows my 25FB just fine. I have never had it out West but none of the eastern mountains have been a problem. I always use tow-haul and it does not want to cylinder deactivate except on downhill stretches. I always tow fully loaded. Yes, my payload is limited but we do not haul around a bunch of stuff so it works for me. And has been said many times, the half ton is much more comfortable as a daily driver when the trailer is not attached, which is most of the time. With the trailer I normally average 13-14 mpg.

Me too....I don't even usually bother to respond, because EVERYONE is an "expert".
Check and stay withing the manufacturer's load ratings and you'll be fine. If you want to be "boy racer", then go ahead, but when a poster just wants to know if their rig is safe and effective, the specs tell all the story that needs to be said.

Frankly my 5.3 four speed pretty much kicks arse when towing my 6,700 pound trailer. I do have 3.73 gearing which might make a little difference.

I have found it easy to maintain a speed of at least 65 on any stretch of Interstate between Tucson and Little Rock. That to me is pretty much a successful tow.

But who knows? Maybe my truck is just one of those that run well out of the factory.

2011 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 5.3

Mileage?

If I run about 55, I get about 12, if I run about 75+, I get about 9.

(Real world hand calculated)

My truck has the big three, CAI, exhaust, and power programmer. I have never had the AFM engaged. It operates on all 8 cylinders 100% of the time. Hoping for the best...
