2008 25 FB & Ford Excursion & Hitch

My husband and I just moved up in size from a 2006 16' CCD Bambi to a 2008 25' Safari SE FB. We were super excited and had little time to go get it and bring it home. We bought it in Nevada and had to drive through the Rockies to bring it home to Chicago, 3 days to get there but almost 5 days to get it home. We used the same tow vehicle (2008 Ford Expedition) and borrowed the sway bars and hitch off the 16' CCD Bambi just to get it home. Now we realize that the setup for the 16' doesn't work for the 25'. Unlike the 16' which towed like a dream, the 25' swayed. Please, does anyone has any recommendations?

Thank you! The thread on hitches seem to lean towards the ProPride. I'm guessing our tow vehicle is not the problem, it is just a hitch that needs to be updated?

We use a Reese with a 27' FB. There are "religious wars" about the brand of weight distributing/sway control hitches on this forum every once and awhile. I suspect that the "truth" in performance has more to do with a properly set up hitch for the specific TT and TV in use than the brand. In your case, you should see if your existing hitch (the brand of which you did not specify) can be adapted to work with your new larger TT. In the case of the Reese (which I am of course familiar with,) switching to a larger trailer would require getting beefier torsion bars and adjusting the ball height and angle, a fairly simple thing to do. I would suggest that if you are not comfortable dealing with this on your own you seek out a reputable dealer for your brand of hitch in your area and go see them.

I tow with a 1/2 ton Chevy. Sway has been a non issue even when towing just on the ball below about 62, so far I have had NO sway on the Hensley I recently installed.

ProPride and Hensley hitches are surrounded with lots of hype, and in my opinion for good reason.
